NFC East is praying we sign Owens

Exactly what is TO supposed to destroy?

3 years with Parcells, 1 playoff game. In the 5 years before that how many more playoff appearances?

This year, no new QBs, no new RBs, so far no new Kicker. So where have we improved enough that we could consider the team as being ready to make a run at a Superbowl, but the signing of TO would wreck everything?

The rest of the NFC East are hoping TO so that we suck for a while longer? I'd argue that if we don't sign him we stand just as much chance of doing exactly that.

I wonder what team it is that some of you are watching.

Your friends in DC are probably the worst judges of pre-season team potential of any fan base in sports. Every year, spectacularly wrong. Even last year, when DC fan consensus was that you were going to get beat badly by Dallas. Forgive us for discounting your opinions.

Sure they want us to sign him, just so the morons can say I told you so and
use the ignorant line Dallas sucks, Of course while these ignorant tools are
waiting on Owens to get out of hand, Owens is thinking this is my last shot
so I need to make it work. Oh he who laughs last, Laughs best, and nothing
will give me more of a hearty chuckle at the expense of Dallas hating morons

Than to turn around and say with a smile You were wrong

As a Skins fan, I actually agree that TO would vastly improve your team. I just wouldn't count on him being with your team for more than a season or two. Beyond that, it's likely that he's going to start making some noise...especially if you guys don't make the SB. To me, TO is never going to find a permanent home in the NFL, he will be a "get us over the top" type player for the rest of his career. I think TO will play for at least 2-3 more teams before he retires. If Cowboys fans legitimately feel that they are going to make a strong run at the SB this year, then I think that TO is probably a smart signing. If you think you might be more than a year or two off, this is totally the wrong move. The damage that TO can do to a franchise in that time frame is just not worth it.

you believe mcnabb and westbrook arent as good as what dallas currently has?uhh, try the eagles other recievers. Westbrook and JJ are about the same, and in terms of passing, Mcnabb and Bledsoe are close. But TG and todd pinkston...theres no comparison

btw- i got your claim about TO and the playoffs mixed up with another poster, but if you didnt think TO 'guided' philly to the SB, why did you respond to my post with "the NFC was a joke..."?Just saying, TO wasn't needed to beat those weak nfc teams, but the eagles weren't nearly as good without TO

and you still havent explained why TO signing would leapfrog the boys to the top of the division? can you find a single NFL analyst who would agree with you? good luck....Uhh, I probably will when their are actual analysts analyzing the NFL!!!

I was overjoyed when Philly signed him because I knew he'd wreck their team.

Owens is poised to do the same to the Cowboys. The COWBOYS! Our team needs to be above this kind of crap! When I see that blue star I think of tradition, hard work, class, toughness, America and apple pie. I don't think of reprehensible, unrepentant, unsalvageable wrecks of humanity like Tuh-RELL Owens.

I hope JJ and BP realize this.

I sure wasn't overjoyed before the two games we had to play them! The first year TO was on the Eagles, nobody looked forward to having to cover that guy. TO will be fine (at least the first year), and I know given what happened last year on the eagles, Jones would ensure the Cowboys have an out should problems arise. People need to give the man credit where credit is due. Even after TO start his fits, everyone still new the guy was a great player and one that was a difference maker on the team. Many of his own players still wanted the guy on the field, given everything that happened in the locker room, as he gave them the best chance at winning. I can remember similar reactions when we were looking at bringing in Charles Haley into the organization. Of course he never pulled some of the stuff that Owens did, but he was considered a cancer to his team at one time too. Look how that turned out for our organization. We are not talking about probably more than a couple of years with this guy, considering his personality and his age. Would he make a big difference to our team? Yes! You can say what you want about him, but I think the upside is far better for 1-2 years than the downside. He also has a tremendous work ethic, and will give you everything he has on the field. He still has the ability to be a pro-bowl receiver. He was very responsible for taking the Eagles to the big game his first year with him... Look what they did without he the next year? Look at the difference he made the times he was on the field for them even during all the turmoil. Teams have a hard time game planning against him.

I think TO is the missing piece to our offense, and could stack up against anyone the NFC east throws our way. Especially with Washington's new offensive acquisitions.

I don't want him for more than a season or two.

In fact the day Bill leaves (2 years max) TO should be cut on the spot.

If the past is any indication of the future (and it usually is), I agree with you. But without seeing into the future for sure, I think that is too early to say. Yet given his age, etc., I think realistically that is what we would be looking at. If you look around the league, with so many people changing teams each year, it seems like the average is about 1-2 years.

I would be surprised though if he isn't looking for a lot of guaranteed money in his contract. If I were you guys, I would definitely front load this guy's contract so even though he's a big cap hit this year, you aren't screwed in later years when you have to cut him.

Thats a good idea.

As far as praying the cowboy sign him, I dunno. First of all, it'd be a ***** for everyone else to deal with him, Commanders included.

But then another part of me thinks that TO might get his act together this time around. If you think about the size of this guys ego, he knows that a superbowl is what will be keeping him from mentioned with the all time greats. He's 32, and in fantastic shape, but you gotta wonder how much he has left. Is he fully healed? He's certainly had a lot of time off...

Time will tell...

Why wouldn't he be fully healed? He broke his leg over a year and a half ago.

Heck, if he plays like he did in the SB NOT full healed, I'll take him hurt :)

I think that's probably wishful thinking. However, I think the thing that makes him such a great player is exactly the same thing that makes him such a pain to deal with.

He's the kind of player who believes, if I am performing, you can't criticize me. Since he's is more than able to back up anything he says, what is anyone going to do about it? Furthermore, his criticism of other players typically comes from the fact that almost no one in the NFL can perform at the same level as he can so he feels he can level criticism at anyone. I actually believe that quite a few players in the NFL have the same attitude, however very few can back it up the way TO does. What that creates is sort of a divisive culture in the locker room....those that believe in that attitude, and those that dont. You saw it in Philly. Several players actually defended TO for a long time, even after his fight with Hugh Douglas. This attitude is sort of hard to undo once the damage has been done. It will really be a testament to Andy Reid and the Eagles organization if they are able to return to their previous form after last season.

some interesting stats...

in three games vs the skins since 01-

10 catches, 103 yards, 1 TD
aveages per game- 3, 34, .3

in 4 1/2 games vs dallas since 01-

30 catches, 424 yards, 5 TD's
averages per game- 6.6, 94, 1+

i cant speak for the giants or eagles, but the skins would welcome TO in dallas for more reasons than just his cancerous nature.
