So happy we sat on our hands to watch every single RB go ahead of us

Actually not mad about losing Ali. Production declined last year and scouts say he really doesn't like contact. Yikes.

Just a theory- let's say the Cowboys do get Dak's deal done over the summer (and this forum explodes).

Then let's say they give Trey Lance all the preseason snaps and he excels. It's then possible Dallas could trade Lance for a 3rd, making the trade of a 4th a win, or they could even swap him for a player and a pick.
First of all, the Cowboys have previously announced they aren't picking up Lance's 5th-year option (per Charean Williams, PFT/NBC Sports - back on March 1st. The deadline for finalizing the decision is next week...May 2nd.
That means Lance will be a free agent after in 2025.

Why would teams do a last-minute deal after preseason ends...when they can just wait out Lance being QB2 for Dallas during the regular season - then negotiate a FA deal with him after 2024 - without giving the Cowboys any compensation = a pick and\or a player?

Add to that - if Lance "excels" in preseason games - won't that validate GM Jones' trading for him last summer = Lance is worthy of being the future Dallas Cowboys franchise quarterback ...and the FO signs him to a new contract?

They already said they're not picking that option up. But they could still re-sign him to a new deal that won't cost as much.
They would be crazy to pick up his option at 20 million for one year. I hope they plan on resigning him or something otherwise that 4th rounder traded for him last season will be even crazier.

Great points.
