The Pro leagues should just fine players for bad conduct. Make a 1st time domestic violence offense result in 1 year without pay, but no suspension.

Suspensions just screw the fans. Fining the players more money than they would lose while suspended would be a bigger deterrent to the players

Something tells me a year without pay isn't a punishment the NFLPA would accept.

Dumping or divorcing your wife or girlfriend for insulting you makes her suffer 100% and leaves you free to keep making bank. And finding other honeys. I wish the public education system emphasized teaching legal concepts such as assault and/or battery.True enough. That's why intelligence is a good thing.

Sometimes you can't just pick up and leave especially when there's kids involved. And if you do get a divorce your wife is gonna screw you over with Alimony and Child support payments.

Michael Irvin and Erik Williams were accused of rape which was a lie. It does happen.

So you toss the rule because of the odd or very unlikely scenario? Most if these cases are pretty clear. You can appeal if it isn't

What scares me is you have a lot of these drama queen reality show housewives or girlfriends that could look to get some fame off of getting a NFL Player Banned for life.

The Chick Evelyn Lozado that was married to Chad Johnson gets in a fight with Chad in a car, Chad Head Butts her and he gets arrested for it. She milked every interview she could and six months later she gets pregnant by a baseball player that plays for the dodgers I believe and then marries him. While Chad pretty much gets kicked out the NFL.

What scares me is the women that won't report it for fear of all the attention and venom they'll receive for getting a player banned for abusing them.

What scares me is the women that won't report it for fear of all the attention and venom they'll receive for getting a player banned for abusing them.

Example A:
NBA player Greg Oden was arrested in Lawrence, Ind. this morning, accused of punching his ex-girlfriend. Officers arrived at the home to find the victim crying and lying across a bed holding her face, police said. A woman described as the victim's best friend first told officers what happened, police said.

"He punched her in the face," the witness said, according to the report.

The victim initially was "uncooperative," police said.

The victim's best friend, police said, told the woman, "There isn't that much love in the world. You need to tell that he punched you in the face."

Police "observed blood, swelling to the nose, lacerations to the forehead and nose area of the victim's face," according to the report. They also "observed blood on the sofa and floor in the sitting area. (They) observed (blood) on the living room carpet (and) dirt from a flower pot that was knocked over."

According to a probable cause affidavit filed, police officers were called to the home at around 3:30 a.m. last Thursday and found a 24-year-old woman on a blood-spattered sofa with a swollen, bloody face. A friend of the woman told officers that Oden had "punched her in the face."

The report says the injured woman was uncooperative and told officers she had fallen, but was unable to say when and where that occurred.

Oden told officers he and the woman had dated for about two years but split up two months ago. According to the report, he said he was arguing with his ex-girlfriend when "things got out of control" and he struck her as he swung his arms to try to break free of two people who were trying to hold him back.

But he's only charged with misdemeanor battery...

well you see, its complicated right? sometimes we make bad judgement calls and end up dating crazy strippers who flip out and throw things or say things then you say something then before you know she might blindside you with something I dont know. or so I was told.

Maybe that had more to do with him not being that good anymore.

Maybe men just shouldn't hit there wives, or girlfriends?

I agree that a man shouldn't hit his wife or girlfriend, but maybe these ladies should keep their hands to themselves as well. Everybody should just keep their hands to themselves and we wouldn't have these problems.

Women should do a lot of things in a relationship, Men should do a lot of things in a relationship, but one thing neither of them should do in a relationship is raise a hand to each other.

Deion Sanders Ex Wife accused him of hitting her when they were going through a nasty divorce and it turned out she was just making it all up. I'm telling you man, You're guilty until proven innocent in these type of situations.

This is so stupid. Don't even get my started on the DV part. OF COURSE if you listen to special interest groups they are going to say that women are these perfect little flowers and if a man so much as looks at them wrong, then the big bad man is at fault. People shouldn't hit others, but guess what....people are violent by nature! Things are going to happen. I have little doubt that many of these guys are using steroids. Plus their job is about violence! Fine them, suspend them a game or two, but kicked out of the league? What's even worse is that it covers any kind of violence. Get into a bar fight and police can't determine who started it, bam, six games. I really don't think that he NFL should get involved in these kinds of things, let the courts deal with it. But seeing how people love to see others fall, They should just implement a blanket policy, If you get convicted of a misdemeanor, 1st time fine, 2nd fine and one game, 3rd fine and 4 games, etc. Felony conviction, full season. Second Felony, lifetime ban.

I am not condoning domestic violence at all because it is wrong, but it is also a VERY complicated situation for the NFL to insert itself into. I can seem them only making things worse. They are really setting up players for blackmail and extortion with this new rule.

So you can be the mastermind of a large scale organized crime syndicate, like Michael Vick, and just get suspended a year. You can kill someone while drunk, and only get 8 games (Leonard Little). Doesn't make any sense.

I agree.

I'm all against domestic violence, and I believe the NFL should hand down stiff penalties. But it seems as if Goodell is going to the extreme. A crime involving death results in a less penalty than a crime that results in physical abuse yet the person lives?

He got cut because he got arrested. I remember watching it all on HardKnocks.

His last year in Cincy he had 831 yards. His one year in New England he had 236 yards. He played 4 games in the CFL and caught 4 passes. He just couldn't play any more. Him getting cut may have coincided with his arrest, but he wasn't good anymore.

I doubt the NFL will just suspend guys without evidence and due process. The only problem I have with it is that crimes involving death are given more leniency. If the NFL made a lifetime ban on death by DUI, then I'd be okay with a lifetime ban for domestic abuse. I just see inconsistency in how the NFL applies its punishment.

Maybe the league will make a crime involving death a lifetime ban after a second offense.
