Ugh can this end?

Why are they against EE getting a fair trial?

I know Zeke made the comment that now he can get a fair trial, but none of these court moves are actually about that at all. It's about the NFL's process of fair play per the CBA. Zeke will not get another "trial" out of all of this. I do believe that the league's "process" will get slapped down by the courts (especially as it pertains to Zeke's particular case).

When judges can never agree on what the law is, is there really law?

This is turning into Texas judges versus New York judges.

To a degree law is up to interpretation. That is how our system was built.

This doesn't have anything to do with Texas judges vs New York judges though.

If he successfully gets it thrown out then he will successfully get the domestic abuser title lifted from his name...at least on paper.

Good.

It should.

He's obviously proven himself incapable of handling it. And the legal system has told him so, in no uncertain terms.

To me, it's a very public test of strength between the league and the players and has nothing to do with Elliott and even less to do with justice.
The sad part is the NFLPA isn't asking for players who commit crimes to go unpunished..all they are asking for is that players get a fair trial by a neutral party...

HOW DARE THEM!

What happens if the NFL's appeal fails?

Not much (it will). We'll just continue to wait for them to set a date for a hearing on his case to have the suspension vacated, likely next year some time.

That could happen. I was just referring to the fact that Zeke won't get a "fair trial". He won't get a trial at all. I think the NFL come out of this with egg on their face, though.

I think he meant he just wanted a fair shot to clear his name outside of the NFL's process.

Which he deserves since that process is flawed.

Gotcha. If the courts shoot down the suspension based on the NFL hiding info favorable to Zeke in his appeal, that will go a ways toward vindicating him. The sad part is that no matter what happens from this point forward (short of someone coming up with absolute proof that Zeke is innocent), there will always be a chunk of the population that thinks Zeke is guilty.

From what I can tell, this whole court case is based solely on procedure. NFLPA/Zeke claiming he was not given a fair appeal. NFL saying we have the right to run appeals anyway we want because the CBA says we can. It is not about guilt or not.
What is preventing the NFL from hitting the reset button and allowing Zeke to re-appeal with the issues brought up in this court case cleaned up? In other words, can the NFL say "OK fine, we will let you appeal the decision and we'll use an impartial arbitrator and we'll allow RG and the investigator to testify"?

What you say is true, however, if and when it goes to trial they can make Friel and Goodell take the stand. Once on the stand, a good lawyer can lead them down a path that opens the door to anything and everything. If Goodell proclaims in court that he thinks Zeke abused Tiffany Thompson, then that opens the door to placing all the exculpatory evidence in front of him. Suppose Kessler gets Goodell to admit under oath that it's possible Zeke never touched her. That would go a long way to clearing his name. The trial will start out all about procedure but a good lawyer knows how to ask questions that opens all the doors he wants opened. One statement from Friel, Goodell, or anyone else about Zeke's guilt could open those doors.
