Cowboys holder Bryan Anger usually grabs a blade of grass and puts it down in front of him so he knows exactly where to put the football down when he's holding...

NFL ------>:huh:

I looked at the film of the Eagle kicker's holder picking up something where he placed the ball to be kicked and it wasn't a blade of grass. So I think the Eagles got caught with their hand in the cookie jar!

Can you pluck a blade of astro turf. Maher before the playoffs missed 6 kicks. 3’on fake and 3 on turf.

While I understand using the crutch as insurance, my guess is that most holders could place the ball blindfolded if they had to. Repetitive acts like that tend to become automatic. I hope it doesn’t get in Anger’s brain. The last thing we need are two head cases on EPs and FGs.

I dont know if this is something but, on the first EP - Anger basically spots the ball right at the end of the hash mark - so do you really need a blade of grass to mark the spot.

On the second and third, he was off the hash mark by maybe 4-5 inches and the 4th back to the end. Dont know about the 5th.

Great research!
Don't really see how this would affect a kicker enough to miss 5 straight xps?

Seriously, what has happened for the league to suddenly take an interest in enforcing this seemingly benign rule? They don't usually suddenly decide something like this unless there was a recent controversy.
Sometimes people have too much time on their hands or have to prove their worth/value to their employer.
This adds no value or fairness to the games and just aggravates the fans,
Who by the are the NFLs customers.

Why is the NFL so intent on this bizarre nothingness? What is so intensely important about this meaningless marker to hold the football ?

Has the NFL simply become an overbearing HOA????
What was reported last week was they were addressing using a marker to elevate the ball (effectively, put it on a mini tee). Seems like a blade of grass isn’t going to elevate the ball, unless it’s a blade of bamboo.

Maybe instead of grass he should place a small tee, so money Maher has a fighting chance....

Pretty sure they said it was illegal even if it was something just to mark a spot as well. People just ran with the elevated ball stuff.

I think this whole thing started with the Raiders and how they were using the tee during kickoffs, they were placing the ball "on" the tee and not "in" the tee which elevated the ball slightly to get a little extra hangtime. It was initially ruled as legal, but NFL changed the rule a month ago. I think the whole thing snowballed from there.

The question I have now is, since you can't even use a blade of grass as a marker, are you allowed to clear a spot in the snow?
