You know what gets me, Mike Nolan cant wear a suit on the sideline but people like Al Harris and Troy Polamalu can wear their ratty hair down to the bugs covering the Name and number. Is this not correct? They say it is a "Bussiness" and most people would be forced to cut their hair. I understand its a personal choice but so it image in the bussiness world.

Cut you hair! :chopchop:

The NFL doesn't want to stomp on anyone's right to "free expression"... besides, I'm sure if Reebok made wigs we wouldn't be talking about those two clowns right now. But I see your point, a league that is so consumed with their image lets a couple "rastamans" out there and really it's getting annoying looking at them. McQuarters had the same deal going too, didn't he?

It drives me up a wall that they won't let mike nolan wear a suit there is no logic behind not letting him wear a suit. In fact, I think EVERY coach should HAVE to wear a suit.
And to the argument the NFL doesn't want to stomp on anybody's so called "right to free expression" then why the hell can't mike nolan wear a suit that is my question. If he wants to "express himself" by wearing a suit what is different about not letthing him do that and not letting a player have long ratty hair.

I like the 'long ratty' hair on the guys who are currently wearing it in the NFL (not everyone can wear it and look so good). Polamalu is drop dead gorgeous in it. Maybe almost as hot as Ricky Williams was when he had his dreads. These men are young and attractive athletes and want as much as the guy next door to look like their contemporaries...just as the players of the 50's or 60's looked like their peers.

Dan Campbell, Kyle Turley, Mike MacKenzie, Troy Polamalu...it's a signature style for some players and I fail to see why anyone would find it 'annoying', unless the bias is cultural, and then the onlooker is the one with the problem, not the player.

If it starts detracting from their play, their coaches need to address that..but beneath the uniform is an individual whose sense of team is in NO way impaired by the length of his hair. In fact, a team growing its hair as a group was a great bonding exercise for last years' Boston Red Sox, and it didn't hurt the Vikings much either.

Yeah, that hair hanging out of the helmet is nasty looking. It's got to be nasty, sweaty & dirty. Probably got blood and snot stuck all in it. Gross.

It's unfathomable that a coach can't wear a suit on the sidelines. Ludicrous.

Then would you say a coach shouldn't beable to wear a suit and tie on the sidelines? If thats how he wants to "express himself" a coach whose "sense of team is no way impaired by how nice he is trying to make himself look."??

By the way I agree players should beable to have hair as long as they want as long as it doesnt inhibit their play at all which in the vast majority of cases it doesn't. To me its just ridiculous Nolan is being denied to wear a suit.

if a coach wants to wear a suit on the sideline, he damn well should be able to. I have no idea why that's a rule

However, if you're gonna start complaining about the length of some athlete's hair, do as I said and buy yourself a horse, move to the woods, and stop bothering people.

Exactly none of this should even be an issue really it's all a bunch of BS. Who cares if some guy has ratty long hair, it might look ugly, but so might your face and people don't complain about it. You can use the same argument to defense the "right" to wear a suit and "right" to have long hair.

Ricky Williams wouldn't be drop dead gorgeous if I smoked an ounce of weed :laugh1: But I do like the sensitive, introspective side of him. I find that quite sexy .... but I digress. Men with long, straggly, thick, unkept looking hair look like they stink (in my opinion) ... but that's just me. I'm weird like that. I feel the same way about tatoos. When I see men looking like this, it just makes me want to scrub a brother down with some Safeguard & Head & Shoulders :lmao2:

I do believe this look we are discussing is just the latest fashion and style and not necessarily cultural, for the most part. The 50s, 60s and 70s all had a certain style. So do the current 2000's (best word I could come up with).

BTW, excuse my ignorance, but who does Polamalu play for .... NO? I trust your judgement and I must look out for him this coming Sunday ;)

Money. So take it up with Tags. The NFL insists players and coaches wear officially sanctioned gear because they don't want individuals making private JJ type honey pot deals the league can't stick its fingers into.

Mr Nolan agrees to don an Armani (like Pat Riley did for years) and gets a freeby, or more likely, the designer pays Nolan to strut his latest fall line...whether it's Nike or haute couture, the league insists no one become a walking billboard.

For anything but NFL wear, that is.

I agree. I like a preppy or corporate head coach image myself (tho the Madden look will never die). But it's the slippery slope. Coach X wears what he wants to wear and Player Y is moaning he lost a big Reebok endorsement the next week because he couldn't do the Jim McMahon head band deal.

Look how Tags office came down on Rothelisberger for the Tillman tribute.

No unsanctioned gear, not even a shoelace.

The only venue for fashion ingenuity and individuality these days is in tatoos and hair, be it facial or topside..(oh yeah and that Livestrong bracklet) :p: no wonder the dos are bcoming a bit outlandish.

The long hair is becoming passe tho, the braids style anyway. When Terry Glenn cuts his hair, you know the style is on its way out. :)

:confused:uh, dude, what the hell is that going to do for anybody? I think its very judgemental to say that someones hair is annoying or gross, just because it has dreads!! I cant take the argument of them being hot (LTN), but I can go out on a limb here and ask how many of you guys ever wore a mullet? or how many has had/or does have a combover? Theres nothing wrong with those types of "styles" but people always joke about them, or say "Why would you wear your hair like that?"..........its hair, is it really a big deal?? The suit thing is a given, we all agree that it should be his right to wear a suit if he wants, it'd be hot as hell, but if he wants, he should.........

Wearing a suit on the sidelines and a player having long hair hanging out the back of their helmets have nothing to do with each other.

The reason coaches are not to wear suits on the sidelines is plain and simple....it is not clothing that is sanctioned by the league with the intent purpose of getting money from the sponsor of said clothes.

In otherwords the NFL is making money off of companies they have contracts with ala Reebok and those companies are getting advertisement space.

A players hair hanging out the back of his helmet does nothing to do with a player taking away from the NFLs money and agreement with those clothing companies.

Now if somehow the NFL made an agreement with one of these companies, say reebok, to have suits made for coaches with the reebok logo and the NFL logo on them then money says they would not care one bit if the coaches wore suits, as long as it were those suits, on the sidelines.

Silly I know, but that is just the way things are...never forget the NFL as a whole is a business and you can be darn sure they will make as much money as they can in any way they can....why do you think they did not like Jerry Jones shaking things up for so long, even though in the end it actually helped the NFL and other teams.

It's all about the money, not about how things look. Troy P's hair does not cover up that NFL or other logos, it covers up his name...and for the record I like his hair...then again I am a long haired hippy lol.

Yea it's not hard to understand. It's got everything to do with money and nothing to do with anything else. So freaking get over it or start your own damn league with your own damn money. Nobody's stopping you.
