Okay, "tough" guy. ;)
The word is abrasive.

Instead of "teaching" me football, get back to the subject of the thread.

It's a thread about Greg Ellis and his role in the defense. I was discussing that, but you didn't want to continue the discussion because I disagreed with you.

No, I didn't care to continue where you wanted to go which was simply an argument over what is a true 3-4 and what isn't.

Prediction, on 3rd and long this year we will see some 3-4 looks. Just like the Chargers had last year. I further won't be surprised if Ellis plays some 3-4 DE.

I will leave it at that. if it doesn't happen please call me some adjective that is unflattering. I have no desire to get in a pissing match over something that frankly doesn't interest me. I prefer to discuss ways this defense can be used.

Good god no, I wouldn't want to get into that conversation.

I would be. I wouldn't foreclose the possibility, but I think Greg is much too small nowadays to be worrying about the B gap with his hand in the dirt.

Why does everything have to be a pissing match? It was just a discussion.

Greg Ellis has good reason to worry...while he's no spring chicken, he most definitely is in his prime. Greg is definitely due one final contract in the NFL, and it should be the biggest of his career. But he has to be healthy and productive. He's been relatively healthy up to this achilles problem, but if he loses his spot to Spencer, Ellis knows it will cost him huge in the market place.

Greg Ellis is far from over the hill, and he's also far from being an NFL star pass rusher, but he has been and is a solid starter who can get after the QB at a level that would improve most teams and seriously help teams that already have another quality pass rusher. He doesn't want to languish in Dallas and watch the final years of his prime get away from him.

I hope Spencer is great from day one and that we trade Ellis to a team that could use him and pocket a first day draft pick.

Then I apologize man. I took it wrong because it sure seemed like it.

Tone is a hard thing to read on the internet. Maybe I'm too "abrasive" sounding at times. :D

Hell, he was damn near as big as Fergie.

Yeah, a 4-3 under is a 3-4 look. But the "closed" end in a 4-3 under is typically the strong-side end. Haley played weak-side. And typically a closed end in a 4-3 under is much larger than 250-260. Usually they're the size of a 3-4 DE (i.e., 280+).

Was my Madden playbook compromised????

i would love to see Ellis reduced to 15 snaps a game or so in passing situations if Spencer comes along. Ellis could put in 3 or 4 more years doing that.

I haven't played Madden since before 2000. Though I did watch a clip of the 2008 Madden, which might prompt me to buy a 360.

3rd and 10 and you are in a base defense. You will need to put in an extra cb or 2. So you will have to adjust your Lbs and Dls.
