It's nice to be on the other side of this for once. Many times in the recent past the Cowboys were the ones who got the apology letter.
Your number 1 has the best chance. Because being contacted by another player doesn't mean anything. Two things:
1. It appeared that initial contact was on Dak's upper quad and then he comes downward as he's falling. If you look at the video, the DL's helmet is actually in Dak's rear as his shoulder contacts the upper outside quad.
2. The rule you quote says "A defender cannot initiate..." whereas Steele did fling the DL after he got beat so you could say the DL didn't initiate it. At least that's what Jim Nance mentioned and what the Jets head coach is claiming.
Or call a QB sack, when he's in the arms of his own OL.When they call an illegal huddle or false start against their long snapper on the game winning field goal wake me up.
I was happy with the call but at the time I felt it was cheap. I'm glad the NFL said the Jets got screwed on that call because they did.I agree with NFL...it shouldn't have been a penalty. I'm sure the refs will make up for it later against Dallas though.
