NFL Network's Mike Mayock On D-Mac...

Egads that was a silly thing for him to say.
He did say that he just started watching tapes of juniors so this was a very preliminary evaluation. From what he had seen so far, he said he was disappointed.

bet mike mayock knows what it takes to make it in the pros..................oh wait:eek: that's right he couldn't cut it in the pros.

Mayock doesn't try to shock you or bring attention to himself. He may raise McFadden's grade after he sees more film. He may not. One thing I like is that he is going off what he sees - not what he's told.

Personally, I agree with Mayock on this one. Maybe that is clouding my thinking too. Every time I watched McFadden this year, I kept waiting to be blown away, but I wasn't. He's a very good back, but he's not the best I've ever seen....He's certainly not Adrian Peterson, in my opinion.

I'm not crazy about his body, and I'm not crazy about his instincts either. He felt like someone who could get away with some things in college, but I don't think he'll be getting away with all of that in the pros. In that way, I see the Bush comparison someone else made...

And that's not a bad thing. Reggie Bush is a very good player. McFadden is too, and he'll be a fine pro. I just happen to think he's way overrated right now.

...tonight on the NFL Network, Mike Mayock listed his Top 10 with Matt Ryan listed as #1.

In a surprise, McFadden wasn't in his top 10 and when asked about it, Mayock said he's just started watching the Junior's tapes and he's watched 3 of McFadden's. He said he wasn't as impressed as he expected to be and that although McFadden does have a great burst and speed, he said right now he "wouldn't touch him in the top 20."

Very interesting comments.

I was told to watch McFadden and so I downloaded ** ew games and I also came away very unimpressed and I am telling you... something about this kid worries me I just can't put my finger on it.

I read Boylehearts writeup on him and i can see why people would say hes not going to be able to get away with alot of what hes been able to. If hes not following his blocks and is seeking contact instead of cutting to avoid it then there are going to be issues.

He has speed and power but hes got to progress his game to really be worth a top 5 pick. He seems to not be a lazy slob and its not as if Ark's coaching was the best so it bodes well but its not a sure thing.

Go to bed, Fuzzy! What are you doing up so late? It's a long day tomorrow...

Really I see some of the same possibilities of troubles with DMac as Reggie Bush has run into- namely that the pros are so much quicker and faster.
I watched DMac two games last year and 3 this year, including LSU and the Bowl Game and I was frankly not that impressed. The way so many have been pimping him actually has done him a disservice- NO ONE could be that good. The fumble problem also worries me some as well.

it would be like watching 3 years out of someones life and knowing all about 'em, huh? : )

Huh? Are you talking about McFadden?

I would think watching three years and drawing some kind of conclusion would top watching three games and drawing conclusions.

Ya, i'd take Mayock over Millen, Cerrato and probably several others. I just think DMac not being in his top 20 is suspect at best.

I would too, just becuase you get hired by an NFL team to make draft picks doesn't mean you are any good at it.

I think DMac is an excellent RB and who ever gets him will get a top back in this league.

I agree 100%. I used to be a huge fan of his until I started looking at him closer. He doesn't break tackles and we don't need another speed back who goes down on the first hit every time. I also don't see much cutting ability with D-Mac... in college he's essentially just been running away from everyone. That ain't gonna happen in the NFL where everyone is fast. Mayock is dead on correct in his assessment.

WOOSH - nevermind dude.

Couldn't you say the same thing about reggie bush two years ago?

There are busts in every draft, but I don't think McFadden is like Bush. At all.

I mean, Mayock has Limas Sweed as a better prospect than McFadden. Come on.

Lemme guess, two of the three tapes he watched from this year were the Cotton Bowl and Auburn. ;) Maybe he should watch last year's LSU game.

I didn't have time to read this whole thread, so someone else may have touched on this.

I've never seen a great NFL running back with the body that McFadden has. He's 6-2, 205, with narrow hips and thin legs.

O.J. Simpson was somewhat similar, but that was 40 years ago, and I think O.J. was heavier.

I'm not convinced this guy can carry a full-time load as an NFL RB.

Just my opinion.

I have been the lone wolf in saying this for a long time. I believe McFadden is going to be a bust in this league. Sorry guys, we can agree to disagree on this. We'll see how this plays out, but suffice it to say he will not fall out of the top 10, and I hope (pray?) that Jerry doesn't make a run at him in April.

Chief, my comparison is Marcus Allen. He was tallish and slender, too.

Only McFadden is much faster.
