NFL: No Jaylon Smith

Cue the Ian Rappaport ad hominem attacks in 3...2...1

Well in fairness, he can be notoriously wrong.

So frankly, who knows if he's right. But if the nerve clearly weren't firing then it makes no sense to not IR him at this point. There's no roster benefit to not IR'ing him. It's not like they save a year of service or anything like that. Unless of course, it's simply PR to make people think he's going to be fine.

He got smoked in a 50 yard dash by Charles Tapper. This was about 3 weeks ago. He won't be ready to play anytime soon, if ever.

The lack of progress is alarming though.

It's highly questionable if he even plays next year.
Well he has 6 more months until OTA's. There is nothing to do but wait and hope. His upside is enormous, which is why there is so much interest. But the possibility of him NEVER playing is there.

And if he never plays, we will have gotten as much production out of him as we got from Randy Gregory.

Is this new info? I thought the other thread included info that the nerve had grown like it was supposed to, and now we're just waiting for it to fire. Mickey Spagola said it could literally happen at any time, as in he could wake up tomorrow and it could be firing.

According to Fisher and Broaddus tweets, EMG results are improving.
That means the nerve signals (firing) are getting to the muscle and it is also improving.

The footdrop has different levels of severity - so the severity appears to be getting reduced (better).
It is just not good enough at this time to stop the foot drop.
So it is more waiting.

Yep. Shoot the messenger. Always a good strategy.

Assuming he's a messenger--and not just some dude making things up that haven't been properly sourced or verified--then you're right.

I have no trouble believing this report could be accurate, but there's also good reason to not take Rapoport seriously, regardless.

Please quantify "highly questionable" in probabilistic terms. Otherwise it appears you're just fear mongering.

I await your response.
The fact is that nobody knows when or if that nerve will start firing. Even the doctor who performed the surgery doesn't know. So Smith playing next year is questionable.

Using the word "highly" is Risens editorial comment for the day.:)

There's also not an advantage to IR'ing now. He's not active, and not taking up a roster spot. He was simply removed from NFI; Dallas has 3 weeks to decide what to do. No rush.
