Assuming he's a messenger--and not just some dude making things up that haven't been properly sourced or verified--then you're right.

I have no trouble believing this report could be accurate, but there's also good reason to not take Rapoport seriously, regardless.
Like him or not, Rappaport is a nationa.ly recognized jounalist for the NFL. There are very few of them at his level. Glazer, Shefter, Mort. A few others.

To get to his level takes a ton of work. Years. To put his entire reputation and career on the line over Jaylon Smith seems like a stretch to me. Why does he say he has a source when he doesn't. If he's caught , he's finished. Would you take that risk? I would not. And I don't think he would either.

Well Rappaport is one source.
Broaddus and Fisher are other sources offering a little more details.
They said Jaylon's EMG results are improving.
EMG results improving = firing in Dr. Jerry terms but the question is it enough firing.
He still has foot drop = firing not enough.
Foot drop is not an all or nothing thing - there are different levels of severity.
EMG improving but still foot drop means - not firing enough but firing is improving
So all we can do is wait.

There's also not an advantage to IR'ing now. He's not active, and not taking up a roster spot. He was simply removed from NFI; Dallas has 3 weeks to decide what to do. No rush.
Then why did we choose to not bring Hanna back? We had 3 guys on NFI and only brought back 2. What yo say makes sense, just genuinely curious .

He got smoked in a 50 yard dash by Charles Tapper. This was about 3 weeks ago. He won't be ready to play anytime soon, if ever.

The lack of progress is alarming though.

Don't kill the messenger.

According to a source with knowledge of his physical state, Smith is still waiting for his nerve to fire. "We don't know when it will," the source said.

I will repost something from @Doc50 in a thread from yesterday.
Hope this helps.

I am quite sure he is a doctor, and many old timers on this board probably recognize him.
But I am sure some members will immediately making accusations.
Here is his post:

Foot drop (peroneal nerve palsy) is not an all or nothing condition.
His severity initially was likely a 9 or 10 (0-10 scale), and it's improved quite a bit in the last several weeks.
His deficit now is probably only about a 2, but he therefore still technically has the disorder.

Again, his rehab has been constant and comprehensive, with lots of muscle stimulation to maintain viability and prevent atrophy.
And remember, his push-off is intact, so a major portion of his athletic functionality is preserved, and he's using that daily.

While we fans hunger for info, consider a logical team approach:
1) Media is a huge distraction for them, and is frequently poisonous in many ways.
2) Part of the definition of team includes unity, circling the wagons against all opposition (including mediots, and even fans that want to "throw the bum out" after 1 or 2 bad plays)
3) Such team unity would logically involve a sense a privacy, a resolute commitment keep all issues in house. Bottom line, they play for each other, respect and rely on each other, and and those feelings are steadfast despite the shifting winds of fandom.
4) Therefore, inside info such as injury and non-football issues are not discussed outside the locker room. Certainly, one would not want to ever disclose anything that might give a competitor any advantage.

Garrett and others in interviews this year have uniformly stuck to the same message -- we're staying focused, taking it one play or practice at a time, and avoiding all distractions.

Discipline and patience are virtues.

If you're asking me how Rapoport gets away with being so wrong, so often, on so many topics, I can't explain it either.

If you're suggesting his track record is actually good because he's nationally recognized, we can just agree to disagree.

It hasn't even been a year since the injury occurred.

If it's mini-camp in May and we're at the same spot in the road then I'd be concerned.

I'm not commenting on how good he is or not.

All I'm saying is that he would not write that he has a source on the team when he doesn't. A blatent lie such as this puts him out of business. And he would not take such a risk.

So I believe he has a source within the team. And that source told him what he reported. Time will tell whether that source and Rappoport will be correct or not.

Hanna just had a second surgery that ended any chance of playing this season

We go through this multiple times a year with Rappaport. He's usually wrong. There are no repercussions. The universe you're imagining with serious consequences for b.s. stories doesn't exist and likely never has.
