What do you know are you a scout? I don't care what you didn't see. We didn't have to draft an edge rusher, we took a LB we that second round pick. Any "healthy' defensive player would have been better than an injured player who hasn't played a down all season. Our last 2 second round picks aren't on the field.

I did what any big fan would do. Draft website as well as the leaked draft board.

I think most of agree that a serious edge rusher would help, and just did not see an option beyond Jaylon.
They considered him a 1st round value.

An edge rusher would have helped and any healthy edge rusher who's playing now would be of better help than a player who's rehabbing an injury. Would you not agree? It would help our rotation to have a player who's playing.

You draft for now and the future and we have 2 rookies that are the main reason we're 9-1 right now.

Not my point. We'll look back in 5 seasons and judge whether 'any healthy defensive player over Jaylon Smith' with that 2nd round pick would've been the right call.

I'm not complaining to the mods but posting threads on Smith's nerve especially conflicting threads is getting on the nerves of some. If you enjoy these countless threads talking about it, have fun reading them.
I have no problem doing such. At the same time, threads I have no interest in, I simply ignore. Not come into and commence to complain about its existence or how tired I am of seeing it.

Not any DE, they could be worse than what we have.

I worked with what info sources were readily available including the leaked draft board.

Lets watch the game, it is starting.

It may only take 2 years to look back and see if it was a mistake or not. Didn't take a year to realize the gamble on Gregory wasn't going to pay off.

It may only take one year! So...so there! ;)

Hopefully the Gregory bust convinces the GM brain trust to stay away from players with known drug problems in the draft and FA.

It's tiring to see the threads on the Fan Forum which is why they have different forums. Most of these threads are conflicting. Wouldn't hurt to create a forum for those who want to post Jaylon Smith nerve firing threads. They'll be in one neat little package for those who enjoy seeing them.

It's going to take longer than a year for Smith, his rookie season is a wash.

You're missing the point.

His point was that when we were on the clock during the pick that was used on JS there were no pass rushers the Cowboys had on their board that were worth taking for the #2 pick.

He reviewed all the picks that lead up to ours and there were no options that our scouting department identified as a player worth taking that high. He said he based this on the Cowboys leaked draft board.

You keep repeating yourself by saying it was a mistake we didn't take a pass rusher with our #2 pick and blah blah blah despite there not being any remaining players we rated worth taking at that time.

Nobody disagrees we need a pass rusher but none of the ones the Cowboys rated didn't line up with taking at #2. The Cowboys draft by BPA and not reach for need. This has been covered numerous times over numerous recent drafts.

He and you are missing my point we could've taken a healthy player with that pick that could be helping us right now. It didn't have to be an edge rusher or even a defensive player, just a healthy player that could be helping us. Any defensive player could've helped our rotation and rotating players is a big part of what we do defensively.

Lets be fair and analyze this by who was picked and how they performed.
Other than Spence, no one else was highly rated (scouting) and how they performed (hindsight).
This is the type of analysis I did before to convince myself.

Here are the DEs picked between Jaylon and Maliek:
1. Noah Spence - character risk - 4 sacks - he was not on their board
2. Kamalei Correa - 0 sacks
3. Jihad Ward - 0 sacks
4. Carl Nassib - 1.5 sacks

Here are who was picked between Maliek and Tapper
1. Ngakoue, Yannick - 5 sacks, but not on their board. If they liked him, they could have taken him instead of Maliek.
2. Shilique Calhoun - 0,5 sacks

They choose Tapper over all remaining edge rushers.

Like? You keep saying that and you don't say who you are referring to.

This is a tiresome argument. With few exceptions (Like RB in the 1st) in the draft you take the best talent available. Smith was that. Perhaps the move works out. Perhaps not. That doesn't mean the decision was wrong.

Yes, this proves it.

If Jaylon never plays, or never lives up to his pre-injury billing, the question won't be Jaylon vs Pass Rusher. It'll be Jaylon vs anybody else – just like it would be for any other highly drafted player.
