So is the question really "if Jaylon's nerve is firing" any more?
If not, then perhaps you should be straight forward and make your real point.

It is hard to believe people are unsatisfied with the 2016 draft.
Their draft philosophy may be to be conservative in the 1st and take risks in the 2nd, balancing each other out.
It is pretty silly to pick apart the draft results and selectively choose the ones you dont like when you have no idea of what their overall strategy was.

Having said that, after Hardy and Gregory, I think they would stay away from players with serious personality flaws - unless the risk-rewards was overwhelming.
I dont think they will stay away from injury risks like Lee, Carter and Jaylon.

No one is unsatisfied with our draft, two of the best players in the entire league this season and the two best rookies are players we drafted in 2016. All this talk about Smith and his injury reminds me of all the talk about Matt Johnson who never ended up playing for us. There's been a number of conflicting reports about Smith and his nerve firing. I would have never drafted an injured player with a high second round pick that carries the risk that Smith does. There's a reason he fell to the second round. This is why our defense suffers while our offense is loaded with talent. We make smart, safe decisions with our first pick and gamble our second picks and it's not paying off. Our defense is going to likely end up doing our season in.

They wanted Ogbah, but he was taken.
They tried to trade up, and that was documented, I believe.
The one 3rd round DE that is doing pretty well was not on their draft board.
I see no edge rusher that was highly rated left when they were picking in Jaylon's slot.
As far as someone who could provide an edge rush among other things, Jaylon was the best they could do.
Even at the draft, they said Jaylon could very likely be an investment for next year.

We are excited because there is a chance Jaylon could provide something this year.
Obviously it is against the odds.
Unfortunately it is all we got.

Even I am getting tired of talking about Jaylon.

There easily could have been no new info since Broaddus's tweet about "Improving EMGs but still footdrop".
All the other reports, positive and negative, could easily have derived from that tweet.

I dont think there will be new information until 3 weeks when the roster spot has to be decided.
Until then, any new press report may be just paraphrasing previous press reports.
It is the same way messages get garbled and completely miscontrued after being repeated from person to person multiple times.

I was 99% sure he would not play this year, and even if he had, no way
to be more than ordinary.
He is a long term investment.
tired of hearing about him this year.

There were a lot of players that could have been helping us right now with the 34th overall pick but we gambled it on an injured player who's not likely to see the field this season and may never be the player he was prior to his injury which is why teams were passing him up. We've been gambling second round picks the past few years on TEs, drug addicts and injured defensive players and it's one of the reasons our defense lacks talent and keeps getting us beat in the playoffs.

Our defense is very likely to once again catch up to us in the playoffs which is going to be a shame with as talented as we are offensively. All we needed was a couple of solid defensive players to help us but we drafted a pot head last year who's suspended and an injured player who's waiting for a damn nerve to fire. Seasons like we're having don't come along very often and we have holes defensively that a good offensive team is going to take advantage of when it matters most.

Even if and when his nerve fires there's no guarantees he's going to return to a high level of play. He suffered a serious injury! He's missing a precious year of development as an NFL football player because of an injury he suffered in college. I didn't like the pick when we made it and I don't like it now.

Everybody wanted the edge rusher.
I dont see any other position making a difference for the D.
They got the DT they wanted and he is playing well.
There was no other Marinelli DTs there even if you were to draft one more.

Perhaps a good CB but I dont recall any great CBs being available, and we already lucked into Brown.
May be you can make the case for a RT and there may have been one available.
But that is not defense.

Frankly they were probably not expecting the 9-1 record and may have been drafting for the year after.
For all you know, the Cowboys' doctor who was the surgeon may have said I believe you are getting the real Jaylon next year and perhaps this year.

That is right, there is always that risk.
One needs to consider they have the surgeon on their staff, so no one knows what the guy advised.
All picks have risks, even 2nd round picks.
This is the stats for 2nd round picks being consistent starters (not probowler):
OL (70%) LB (55%) TE (50%) WR (49%) DB (46%) QB (27%) DL (26%) RB (25%)

In Jaylon's case, you are trading injury risk for talent risk.
You can take a lesser talent with much lower injury risk.
There are no guarantees.

If he comes back like college, he is a generational talent and be a guaranteed starter and probable pro bowler.
He could play without much experience and probably be better than everyone other than Lee.
LBs dont need that much development, especially when pass rushing.

There were a lot of players that could have helped us defensively at #34. Did anyone see Dak helping our offense the way he has? Anyone healthy that's on the field for us would have been a lot more helpful than a player sitting around waiting for a nerve to fire. What's going to disappoint and anger many of us is if our defense ends up costing us in the playoffs. We don't have a consistent pass rush and good passing teams are going to be an issue trying to stop. We're going to have to control the ball with our offense, put up a lot of points and try and protect our defense which was the case in 2014 until it finally caught up with us in Green Bay.

I'm not going to argue this all day we have a game to watch.

I have done this exercise myself, and I saw no one who was a difference maker this year.
I even went back and match their draft board with what happened.
I dont see it.

Name one edge rusher who was highly rated who was available.
And I dont mean to use hindsight to find some player who is doing well now who was not highly rated.

No matter who was available they could play. Smith can't and there is a chance he never will. It wasn't a smart pick. Thankfully they hit it out of the park on the other draft picks.

What do you know are you a scout? I don't care what you didn't see. We didn't have to draft an edge rusher, we took a LB we that second round pick. Any "healthy' defensive player would have been better than an injured player who hasn't played a down all season. Our last 2 second round picks aren't on the field.

You draft for the future. Let's look back on this post in 5 years and see if the 'any healthy guy over Jaylon Smith' in the 2nd round would've been the smart pick.

You draft for now and the future and we have 2 rookies that are the main reason we're 9-1 right now.

The content doesn't bother me because I don't click on most of them but nothing can be done about seeing the threads if they're posted in the Fan Forum. The threads can be merged or start a forum for them and move all the threads that are started about his nerve there.
The mods have obviously decided that isn't necessary so looks like you're complaints are falling on deaf ears...

I like your approach which is fair and can be tracked. Props.

Which draft board/source were you using when you were doing this exercise?

I'm not complaining to the mods but posting threads on Smith's nerve especially conflicting threads is getting on the nerves of some. If you enjoy these countless threads talking about it, have fun reading them.
