Yeah QB capable of playing at this level are hard to come by and once you get to backup it becomes much harder to win. There are some rules pertaining to protection of the QB I don't care for. I think hands to the face of the QB even when you barely touch them goes a bit over board. However when it comes to the QB being able to protect himself by throwing it away as long as he is outside the tackle box and the ball crosses the line of scrimmage I think is fair. Even at that it is not that easy when a QB is being forced 15 yards or so from the line to get enough on it to make to the line of scrimmage. Lastly we still see the call of illegal grounding take place.

The penalty for a defenders hand touching QB helmet is maybe the worst of all. It often happens on 3rd down after the defense has gotten a stop but gives the other team new set of downs.

Looks like they have a rule that works for their purposes, and now they're focused on trying to change our perceptions of what is and isn't a catch.

Until the refs are consistent about that call, our perception isn't changing. They ought to focus on that.

I just hope there isn't a lot of confusion on the chop block rule that leads to flags that shouldn't have been thrown.
