From what I have read, each team has a representative and the all actions or decisions are voted on.

This appears to be a league-wide memo to Jerry and Dan.

I don't know if thats right. here's an excerpt from a PFT article

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...djustment-by-pointing-to-competitive-balance/

“The Management Council Executive Committee determined that the contract practices of a small number of clubs during the 2010 league year created an unacceptable risk to future competitive balance, particularly in light of the relatively modest salary cap growth projected for the new agreement’s early years,” the league said in a statement forwarded to PFT by spokesman Greg Aiello.

And read this article on AFC East committee members and their committees. This doesn't appear to be a committee that all owners are on. As a matter of fact in the AFC East only Bob Kraft is a member.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/27103/afc-east-influence-on-nfl-committees

Let's take a look at what AFC East folks are involved with the 28 listed groups.

Hoof you are right.

It is all the owners and they do have the right to tack on fines and penalties as they deem fit. I could see them taking the angle that the commissioner had no right to seek penalty and therefor the Committee has no grounds because its pretty clear that the Commissioner bringing the case precedes the additional penalties.

The penalties are absolutely arbitrary. The words used are 'as they see fit.'

Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder have known about this for quite some time as they would be on committee if prevented from voting. From what i am reading about how they operate it is very clear that there is a bunch of stuff going on we are clueless about.

Given that they would have had to know about this, it tells me that if there isn't a lawsuit in the next few days, then its not going to happen. It also tells me something stinks.

actually things like that have been challenged in court quite often and have been ruled as illegal. Not all the time; but it has happened. Jerruh and DB could charge that they are being defrauded.

Apparently Jerry and Snyder pissed in Roger's Wheaties.:bang2:

Well, if the NFL wants to mess with the two biggest owners in the NFL, they better be ready for it.

From what I am hearing, looks like Jones and Snyder are willing to take this to court if need be once they get something in writing from the NFL. Which I cant see the NFL doing. There is a reason they didnt put any of the warnings in writing in 2010, because it was illegal.

Then they should be furious at the league for approving it and asked the contracts to be voided. What they did is just some halfassed solution to try and make it seem that they aren't enforcing a cap that didn't exist.

The small market teams were the impetus behind the lockout to begin with. Screw them.

It's those same small market teams that make a living off the revenue sharing teams like the Cowboys and Commanders provide.

TK posted something similar on ES, and it's great stuff: I would love for Danny and Jerry to show up and just say: "Welp, have fun with that whole revenue sharing thing without us."

Could the league be bluffing if they knew it was illegal to even put this in writing?

The memo released was so incredibly vague no teams or figures were identified. The only figures we've heard have come from the media. I am beginning to think this is going to have less of an impact than initially reported.

With AdamJT and Hoofbite's excellent research, we clearly aren't alone on this, with the highly questionable legality of the penalties, after all is said and done, I really don't think it'll be much more than a slap on the wrist. I really hope I'm right :)

I think the NFL expected Jerruh and Danny Boy to just bend over and take it; and never thought they would fight it.

:laugh1:

Really? Has he not paid attention to the type of owners Jones and Snyder are? Snyder sued a local paper for making fun of him!! These are probably the two owners I would least want to pick a fight with.

Goddell and the other owners are dumber than I thought...

Timing is based off the fact that it would be less likely for this to be taken to court or appealed. They can't just wait or majority of the FA's would be gone. Basically a way to shove it to both teams :banghead:

That's one reason neither should elect to take any penalty in 2012.

Schefter was on Mike & Mike this morning and said the NFL took 18 million off the Commanders 2012 cap number overnight without even asking.

This is utterly ridiculous.

Is it possible to file an injunction to delay the start of FA until there is a resolution to this?

I thought they permitted the Skins to choose how to split it?

EDIT: Snyder should demand a written notice explaining the rationale for the cap hit, why the Skins and not other teams who are apparently also in "violation" have not been hit, what the violation is considering the league o.k. the contracts, etc. I really wonder if Goodell will put anything in writing.

They can try, but the league has set both of these teams up with this last minute BS. If they delay FA, they will look like pariahs to a majority of the NFL community.

Sounds like a way to force the issue, if you don't want 18M this year then tell us how to split it, then once you do........
