I'm intrigued about this idea that there are comparable actions taken by other teams that were not punished. That kind of arbitrary decision makes it all the more likely to violate the rule of reason and make this an illegal restraint of trade.

Still can, will have plenty of room.

I don't want to underplay how much it hurts, but it's not like they are now in cap hell and have to slash just to get under. With the guys they cut today they're going to be 40+ million under the cap before they decide how to split up this 36 million hit.

If they go 16/20 this year and next they'll probably end up 25+ million under going into FA.
Dude, anyway you want to look at it, losing 36M in cap space will be felt

But they are cutting guys to make room and even if they still can sign some big names this is definitely going to have an impact on their depth. Especially when your $40 mil was basically your way around trading your best draft picks in the near future.

Sellers and Atogwe were going to be cut either way from what I can tell. Sellers had lost his starting job to Young and Atogwe looked bad and was hurt most of the year.

Think about this, they took one draft pick away from the Patriots for cheating.

They're basically accusing us of bending the rules just shy of cheating

What about the teams that just flat out dumped high priced veterans during the uncapped year? I guess that was perfectly fair? Total crock of BS

How about we not roll over a $10 million cao hit to next season?

Three reasons:

  1. We've got FAs we want now. This is not always the case but indications are the FO wants to spend some money in FA.
  2. We can afford the hit more next year given the money coming off the cap.
  3. This will give the team one full year to raise a stink and see if the ruling sticks. This seems really fishy.

Oh yeah, I agree...didnt mean it to come off as "36 million? Pfft....pocket change!"

I was just saying it doesn't make the Commanders up against the cap instantly, they can still be active. They can't go out and sign VJax, Nicks, Carr and 4-5 other top guys, but they can still make a run at VJax and some other more value based players to get line depth and work on some secondary help.

Who knows how accurate it really is, but the Sportscenter claim on this on the local ESPN radio is that the league did this because "The other owners felt it was unfair."

You gotta be kidding me.

Just so it's known, this "verdict" by the league did not take Jerry and Dan off guard. Neither has been sitting on their thumbs about it and I can assure you they have had their people doing what they do. This is not as cut and dry or a story over scenario by any means.

There won't be any appeals or law suits.

Looks like this was part of a settlement with the NFLPA involved

No appeal, this was settled already with the NFLPA and the owners agreed to it, incuding Jerry and Snyder it sounds like.

Nothing to be done. :banghead:

Again, more details will come out about it but it's not as cut and dry as it sounds right now and no, I don't know what the details are.

I think 30 Yard Slant said this earlier, why wasn't Chicago punished for Peppers? It was just as bad as Miles' contract.

I certainly hope not. 36 million over 2 years is brutal, in light of the trade Friday
