Who do we trust? It’s all based on opinion which is why they differ. I could care less about power rankings. You find out where teams stack up when the playoffs arrive.

I too believe those rankings are a tad bit high.

They basically go on won-loss record. I personally like PFF rankings and DVOA. But then again, I’m more analytical thinking.

What really matters is the post season. All this regular season stuff is just fluff.

I’d still put the 9ers and Bucs in front of Dallas. We haven’t proven we can beat those teams. Considering we blew out Minny, I’d say we should certainly be ahead of them. 6 or 7 is fair so these rankings seem to flatter us a bit.

So, following your logic (standings best reflect what you are)... you are on record saying:
-You'd rather face the Bucs than the Giants
and
-You'd rather face the Vikings than the 49ers

Vegas sure doesn't think the standings tell the real story.

The Cowboys have only played 11 games, we're not playing anyone in the playoffs right now.

Also, you are talking about today, as in right now, with regards to the rankings.

The so-called "rankings" have no bearing on playoff opponents or positioning. Standings do.

Rankings are just some writer's opinion of the order of the best to worst teams. That's why every rankings list is different. Everyone has an opinion.

Standings are not opinions, but based on reality. A team may have a better or worse record than they really deserve, but their record is what it is and that's how they are truly ranked, especially regarding the playoffs .. at the end of the season.

You think Vegas S-Bowl odds-making is dumb too? No better than throwing darts? Those odds are really the same thing as a power ranking. They tend to have a pretty good pulse on it. I don't bet myself, but I find rankings interesting.

Vegas really doesn't care how good a team is. They care how many people think a team is good. Gamblers drive the Vegas odds.

When the 3-7 Cowboys opened up -6 over the 10-0 Panthers on Thanksgiving Day in 2015, that had nothing to do with who is better. It had to do with Vegas not wanting to lose money. But I'm sure they took a beating anyway as the game went off at Dallas -1 1/2. That kind of line shift means boatloads of people bet Carolina.

I wonder if the Cowboys players themselves read the power rankings.

If they do, then i would prefer that the Cowboys be ranked somewhere just above average, Perhaps #13 or #14.

We should try to keep that chip in their shoulder for as long as possible, make them feel as though they are being disrespected.

As soon as the team feels satisfied, I think they begin to slip a little.
