NFL Radio - Dallas is 3rd most dysfunctional team in NFL

Listening to NFL radio this morning, Ross Tucker ranks Dallas #3 behind Miami and Cleveland as most dysfunctional organization in the NFL. Agree or disagree?

What a joke. Yeah, we're nowhere near where US FANS would like to be, but to say we are 3rd in line as dysfunctional is ludicrous. Ross is a moron at that. I'm sure many in here take his crap as biblical, but not me. Just another wannabe, talking-head. I'll agree that we've been middle of the pack for quite some time, but not 3rd on the list of dysfuntion.

Yep, I didn't even waste my time reading his garbage to know better. And I'm sure some will slam my lack of effort and apparent homerism. Sorry fellas, I still love my Dallas Cowboys. I'm from Texas and will continue to cheer, root, and stand up for my Boys, regardless!!!!

Piss on the rest of ya!

Being .500 20 years after your last Super Bowl isn't dysfunction. It's mediocrity.

Know the difference.

Why cherry pick? Yes, we are .500 in the last 20 years going back to 1994. But if you go back to 1991 we are .532. If you go back to the beginning we are .571. If you go back to the Jerry era we are .531. Go and look at the rest of the division. It is true we are in third place for that time period but we aren't that different and we certainly beat the socks off of them overall. Philly is 36 games under .500 overall.

I don't dispute we are mediocre right now and have been for the last two decades. That's a long dry spell for us. Longer than anything I ever would have imagined happening. So you and others aren't the only people disappointed which is a huge understatement for me. If it would help I'd get out and push.

Dont have the hard and fast numbers, but I would say thats about right. Miami has some clubhouse distress happening and Cleveland's been a mess since I've been alive. I would agree and if I disagreed it would only be to say maybe Dallas should be #2.

This is just some guy needing to fill air time with something. 3rd most dysfunctional? The record doesn't show that. The record shows us as a middle of the pack team, as in mediocre. We're a long way from the best, but also a long way from the worst. It sucks to be mediocre, but that's a far cry from being one of the most dysfunctional teams.

I'm glad he was able to fill his air time.

Thought Oakland would be in the conversation too.

I would put Dallas @ #1.

Nobody with the resources that the Cowboys have should suck for this long.

Agree completely, there is at least hope elsewhere, things can change, but we are saddled with the Jerry. He thinks his way is the right way even though it hasn't worked in almost two decades.

So some here say, .. "we aren't #3, .. we're #1 in dysfunction.

And then there are others that say, "we aren't #3, there are <insert 4, 5 or as many as> 8 teams worse than we are.

So 1st or 10th ?

Are we satisfied with anything close to that?

Surely not.

^^Thread winner.

Only the homers try to argue that Dallas is not a wreck!! It's laughable. This is exactly why JJ is able to use the entertainment card, he has more fans that buy his crap than fans that see right through it...we wonder why we've been horrible for 18 years, If the fans don't care why should JJ....

I'll answer all of your questions. The number ONE reason we are close to the bottom of this list is because you can't fail for 18 years and not fire the guy responsible for the failure...You can't have an 18 year rebuilding process!!! Any CEO, CFO, President, GM, etc, who has been as unsuccessful with his product for such a period of time would have been shown the door 10-15 times already.

Oakland, Jacksonville have to be above us.

Can we agree we are a disfunctional mediocre team then?

I think you are misinformed. Everyone's cap number is the same. Again if you want to grouse about the cap management then I'll have your back up to a point.

We have good scouts. We are drafting better and I expect that to improve even more.

Still there are a lot of teams that can't afford to pay their roster even what the Cowboys can. They have talked, and may have already, made the cap to where you actually have to spend a certain amount of money.

Jerry and other big teams were not happy about some of the smaller markets not even trying to spend.

Also, Dallas could have every guru in the league from the GM all the way down to the Physical trainer.

The ability to market yourself in Dallas is greater too.

The NFL is not a level playing field even with a salary cap. IT's just put's a bigger emphasis on teams having a smart front office and great coaching staff.

I think dysfunction is in the eye of the beholder. The Cowboys organization surely does have its share of difficulties at a managerial level. Nevertheless, there are quite a few teams whose longstanding win-loss records are much more symptomatic of dysfunction -- Miami and Cleveland are only two. Like Bill Parcells used to say, "you are what your record says you are." Granted, that may seem a bit simplistic, of course but it makes sense.

And the record indicates that only 5 teams have fewer playoff wins over the past decade and a half, which objectively places the Cowboys squarely in the most dysfunctional category.

Your confusing unsuccessful with dysfunctional. The Cowboys are run in an unconventional way but it's always been clear that everyone has input then Jerry signs off. When I think of dysfunctional I think of Dan Snyder not talking to his HC or Jerry and Jimmie not talking much the last year he was around.

He didn't include the Raiders? Wow.

I have Ross Tucker as the 10th most disappointing lineman you never heard of.

There is no confusion. Any team that hasn't replaced it's management after a decade and a half of failure is dysfunctional by definition. That team isn't even trying to improve.

There is a floor that must be met. That is to keep teams from going cheap. So every team in the league has a window of salary to pay out. We are always at the top of the cap window in terms of paying salaries. You can view that as a good or not so good thing. I see it both ways and see the cap situation as a bit complicated. I also think, as I've consistently said, we don't manage our cap well which includes a myriad of variables.

As far as having personnel, I don't see things the way many here appear to do. I think most coaches in the league are knowledgeable. Some are more knowledgeable for certain things. Another way to say that is some have more expertise than others in certain areas. And like almost all things there is a spectrum or bell shaped curve for that with most being within a standard deviation or two from the rest. IOWs, there isn't a lot to gain with most coaches for their area of expertise. Obviously you are going to occasionally find a person who is more than two standard deviations away from the mean and there lies your coaches like Landry, Parcells, Gibbs and so forth. They aren't common commodities and aren't there for our picking when ever we wish. So here we disagree.

The main thing on a football field is personnel playing the game. You have to make plays and you get big plays from your playmakers. Which is why I say seldom pass on drafting a playmaker. Better they be on your team than the one you're playing. But you can only have so many guys on your team like that anymore due to the cap. And only so many at certain positions. You can't spend but so much for each unit those being QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB and DB. Occasionally you will pay for a STs player like we did our kicker. And it's why you are looking for a playmaker to affect several areas on the field.

The other is matchups. The game is always going to be matchups and here is where coaching is at a premium. If you can put your players in positions of strength and in matchups they win more than lose or draw then you will likely influence the game. That and big plays esp negative ones win more games than anything else.

Today the draft is more important than ever. Here is where you begin to get your edge esp over time. You've got to get into the upper tier of the league in terms of the personnel you put in the game. Then you have to coach them.

As far as Jerry is concerned, I have no problem thinking of him as problematic. I just don't see him as quite the problem as many seem to do. I think he was a major problem at one time. I absolutely believe he needs to have either a GM in name or someone who fills that role for him. I believe that McClay could be that person.

I understand the frustration many have and for what reasons depending on the generation of fan. It's difficult for any fan of any generation. For older fans the prospect of never seeing the Cowboys in another SB before departing is especially frustrating.

Hope that clarifies my position for you. Best.

wow, another cowboys hater on the radio.
How about the Bucs and how they handled the Josh Freeman situation, the Commanders and the RGIII shanahan Feud.

Or Dallas and how many coordinators they have year after year. Sticking with Garrett. Now having all these meaningless people in Calahan and Kiffin. How we draft. Handle the cap. Contracts we hand out.

There is no direction with this team at all.
