ALLEMAN AMONG SAINTS’ CUTS

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:33 p.m.
The Saints used a third-round draft pick on guard Andy Alleman last year, but he’ll leave New Orleans without ever having played in a game.
Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports that the Saints have waived Alleman, a 2007 third-round pick out of Akron who has practiced at both guard and center but has never gotten into a regular season game.
The Saints trimmed their roster down to 67 on Friday, meaning they now have to remove 13 more players from their roster this afternoon.

Commanders CUT WADE, FROST, MASON
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:41 p.m.
As the Washington Commanders move toward finalizing their 53-man roster, a few players have been sent packing.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Commanders’ cuts included offensive lineman Todd Wade, punter Derrick Frost and running back Marcus Mason.

The decision to cut Frost means Durant Brooks, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Georgia Tech, won the preseason punting competition.

And while preseason means something to punters, it doesn’t mean much to running backs: The Commanders cut Mason even though he led the NFL in rushing this preseason

Andy Alleman, 6-3 3/4, 294 is competivite and works hard, Can reach linebackers & deliver a lblow. Holds his ground against straight line rushers. Can reset & anchor when jolted backwards. Eliminates defenders on seal blocks.

Weaknesses, and this is important, is small, stiff & limited atheltelically. Does not use hand punch aggressively and lacks quickness off the snap. Bottom line says must add bulk adn work on his balance. He does not project as a sttarter, runs 40 in 5.15, so sounds like he isnt a mauler, thats what Hudson Houck likes, so sounds like he isnt what the cowboys need. This was off of sporting news draft magazine. Sounds like he is more of what Denver Broncos use, quick and small with their style of run blocking.

I bet he will end up being part of the churn in Miami. Ireland really liked him if I recall correctly.

Cuts leave Giants roster with two quarterbacks

Posted: August 30th, 2008 | Adam Schefter | Tags: New York Giants

Breaking from the pattern of carrying three quarterbacks, the Giants have decided to carry two into the regular season. New York released quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Andre Woodson, leaving Eli Manning and David Carr as the only two quarterbacks on the Giants’ roster.

Just as notable, defensive backs Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters made the final roster, as did wide receiver Sinorice Moss, who needs to elevate his game to continue to hold on to his spot.

Are the Giants down to 53 now? Can I get a link to their cuts?

Thats all Shefter gave, I don't know why he didn't list all the cuts in his blog.

Someone should pick him up for the PS. If not, I hope his passport is up to date.

New York Giants cut WR London
by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger
Saturday August 30, 2008, 12:49 PM

The Giants have waived WR Brandon London, who apparently didn't do enough to beat out Sinorice Moss for the final receiver spot. London will definitely be on the practice squad if he clears waivers. We'll see if that happens.

That makes seven of 22 cuts with these six already confirmed.

Heads (or is it helmets?) start to roll for New York Giants
by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger
Saturday August 30, 2008, 12:36 PM

First of all, my apologies for not posting my roster projection. I had the worst connection issues in the history of the Internet yesterday and had to find a hard line today because both of my wireless connections are shot for some reason.

That being said, I already know a handful of cuts and guys who believe they made the team. So to post a projection now would be an unfair exercise. Again, my apologies for missing something I would have preferred to do.

Here are your first six (of what will be 22) cuts that I have confirmed:

*DE Wallace Gilberry
*DE Alex Morrow
*TE Jerome Collins
*OL Na'Shan Goddard
*OL Digger Bujnoch
*DT Jeremy Clark

Gilberry was a bit of a surprise in my book. Thought he had a pretty good shot at making this roster. I'm sure they'll try to add him to the practice squad.

Morrow flashed early in camp, but I didn't see much late.

Collins never really panned out here. He came in with high hopes from what I had heard.

Goddard was an undrafted free agent who made the team in 2006.

Bujnoch suffered a sprained MCL late in the game against the Pats. That was a shame because he was two minutes from making the practice squad. He'll receive an injury settlement, which will mean he'll be eligible to come back six weeks after the negotiated settlement.

New York Giants release Schweigert

by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger Saturday August 30, 2008, 1:11 PM

One more cut for you: S Stuart Schweigert, who was signed late in camp.
That leaves four safeties on the roster: James Butler, Michael Johnson, Kenny Phillips and Sammy Knight. You would think all four will be on the team, but don't forget the Giants might need to nip and tuck here and there to keep an extra kicker and maybe another WR and/or RB.
Speaking of RBs, sounds like they haven't made their decisions there. That could mean they're trying to shop one of the guys to see what they can get in return.
Fourteen cuts to go...

Two more cuts for New York Giants

by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger Saturday August 30, 2008, 1:49 PM

CB Geoffrey Pope, who played in two of the four playoff games last season, has been waived. He figures to be on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Also waived was rookie OL Andrew Bain.
Ten more...

Before 2007, plenty of scout web sites had him as the #1 overall pick.
