BROWNS ANNOUCE THEIR CUTS
Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 10:59 a.m.
The second team to get at or close to 53 players on the active roster is the
Cleveland Browns.
The guy most notably on the bubble, receiver Travis Wilson, didn’t make it.
Joining him on the outside looking in were tight end Brad Cieslak, defensive back A.J. Davis, receiver Efrem Hill, tight end Kolomona Kapanui, defensive back Travis Key, offensive lineman James Lee, receiver Lance Leggett, linebacker David McMillan, defensive back Brandon Mitchell, linebacker Chase Ortiz, offensive lineman Jonathan Palmer, defensive back Jereme Perry, defensive lienman Melila Purcell, kicker Jason Reda, receiver Steve Sanders, and linebacker Shantee Orr.
The Browns also waived-injured the following players: offensive lineman Derrick Morse, offensive lineman Marvin Philip, defensive lineman Chase Pittman, and running back Travis Thomas.
Offensive lineman Lennie Friedman was placed on injured reserve.

GIANTS KEEP MADISON, MCQUARTERS
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:17 p.m.
Veteran cornerbacks Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters were
thought to be in jeopardy of losing their jobs as the Giants make their final roster cuts today.
But Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that both cornerbacks have made the Giants’ 53-man roster.
Two players who didn’t make the roster were quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Andre Woodson, meaning the Giants have decided to join the ranks of teams with just
two quarterbacks on the roster. Eli Manning will start and David Carr will back him up.
Failing to make the final roster is a major disappointment for Woodson, who a year ago, as a senior at Kentucky, was being talked about as a high first-round draft pick. Woodson should at least make some team’s practice squad.
Schefter also reports that wide receiver Sinorice Moss did make the Giants’ final roster, although he’s been disappointing so far and will need to improve soon if he wants to keep his job.
ALLEMAN AMONG SAINTS’ CUTS
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:33 p.m.
The Saints used a third-round draft pick on guard Andy Alleman last year, but he’ll leave New Orleans without ever having played in a game.
Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports that the Saints have waived Alleman, a 2007 third-round pick out of Akron who has practiced at both guard and center but has never gotten into a regular season game.
The Saints
trimmed their roster down to 67 on Friday, meaning they now have to remove 13 more players from their roster this afternoon.
SAINTS TRIM EIGHT

The New Orleans Saints have reduced their roster to 67 with a series of Friday afternoon roster moves.
The Saints have placed receiver Adrian Arrington, a seventh-round draft pick, on injured reserve. They also have released safety Lance Schulters, and waived defensive end Jeremy Geathers, tight end Ronnie Ghent, defensive end Marcus Pittman, safety David Roach, guard Isaiah Ross, and tackle Brian Stamper.
BENGALS CUTTING RUDI
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:36 p.m.
There’s been speculation this week that the Bengals
would trade running back Rudi Johnson, but it turns out that they won’t.
A league source tells PFT that the Bengals couldn’t get anything for Johnson, so instead they’re going to release him.
Johnson, who carried 170 times for 497 yards last year, was slated to earn salaries of $3.45 million in 2008 and $3.6 million in 2009. Instead he’ll become an unrestricted free agent and hope to catch on elsewhere.
The Saints have to remove 14 more from the roster by 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
Commanders CUT WADE, FROST, MASON
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 30, 2008, 1:41 p.m.
As the Washington Commanders move toward finalizing their 53-man roster, a few players have been sent packing.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Commanders’ cuts included offensive lineman Todd Wade, punter Derrick Frost and running back Marcus Mason.
The decision to cut Frost means Durant Brooks, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Georgia Tech, won the preseason punting competition.
And while preseason means something to punters, it doesn’t mean much to running backs: The Commanders cut Mason even though he led the NFL in rushing this preseason.
