Cap hell is being restricted from what you need to do to improve the team and make it a contender. Something the Cowboys have experienced more than a few times over the years. They've sat out a ton of FA periods because of cap issues.

This team needs almost an entirely new defensive roster with a franchise QB on the back 9 of his career. Time isn't on his side. An aggressive FA period is called for but the Cowboys, with their genius cap guru Stephen Jones, are in no position to go that route.

But they can do whatever they want.

They must want to lose.

None of that is true.

None of that is true.

I see. So entering FA with a ton of needs and not having the cap space to do much about it isn't cap hell.

The Cowboys would do the same this spring whether they had 2 or 20 million of cap space available.

They are doing what they want. They really just do not want to be players in free agency right now. Get with the program.

Jerry your doing a brilliant job. Lls last in cap dollars with aging players who aren't playing close to there contract numbers or big dollars to people not on the team (Ratliff). They should of never gave him that contract extension in the first place smh.

Let's talk about who's brilliant. It's you're, not your. It's their, not there. It's should've, not should of. Just sayin.

There are some in the local media who are acting like the Cowboys are fine as it pertains to the cap and although they are technically able to defend their position - that the Cowboys are not REALLY that far over the cap because a quick adjustment here and here to Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Brandon Carr and presto, they are fine - it still is symptomatic of a franchise that has been winding up a ticking time bomb. Yes, they can function and yes, they can continue to put off the inevitable, but do not dare argue that this is all a figment of the media's imagination and some anti-Cowboys bias in the national press. That is disingenuous on every level and the Cowboys are trying to function without a major avenue of improvement at their disposal (free agency) because of this negligence.

Real shocker here - Jerry has his team strategically positioned with the least cap space

Team by team (projected) salary cap at present

1. Oakland RaidersAvailable Cap Space — $63,783,470

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

Available Cap Space — $51,873,848

13. Philadelphia Eagles
Available Cap Space — $23,532,737

15. Washington Commanders
Available Cap Space — $21,938,568

17. New York Giants
Available Cap Space —$17,581,183

32. Dallas Cowboys
Available Cap Space — $639,057

Jerry Jones’ cap problems have been well documented, to say the least. The Cowboys got under the cap just in time for the new league year, but not by much. Dallas has $134,119,523 in cap obligations for 2015, which includes Tony Romo’s monstrous $28 million cap number. With the contracts of Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith and and DeMarco Murray all set to expire aftert he season, the franchise could be in some trouble if the salary cap doesn’t significantly rise again next year. Step one would be to release DeMarcus Ware in the coming days.

This means absolutely nothing. It's an apples to oranges comparison. We have everyone signed except a 32 year old DT, We have 4-5 guys we can restructure, 1-2 possible releases and we are already under the Cap? We are in pretty good shape.

The NY Giants have 17 Million but also have 26 free agents, 23 that started at least one game last year, 12 which would be starters next year, including J.Tuck, H.Nicks, Beason, C. Webster, T. Thomas, Andre Brown, to name a few.

Denver released C. Bailey and restructured others but they have many unsigned starting FA's Eric Decker, Cromartie, K Moreno, Beadles, and a slew of others.

Now if we were sitting here 100% restructured without Murray, Carr, Sean Lee and Ware signed...that would be cap hell.

The truth is we have 4-5 guys we can re-structure, releases have not been triggered yet (Miles Austin) and everyone is signed except Hatcher. We could very well open up 20 + million in cap room and do as we please in FA.

...But they are still in cap hell.

As usual, you're overstating the case where stating it properly would be sufficient and wouldn't have anybody arguing with you. We're limited under the cap, in a league where it's better to accumulate value veteran free agent contracts and to build through the draft. It's a competitive disadvantage, and yet, somehow, not quite the end of the world.

What it is not, is 'cap hell.' But then, you know that, but just don't think it sounds dramatic enough.

And that's a reference to a quote taken out of context, too, for the record. Assuming you're referencing the Stephen Jones quotes from recent off seasons. Those are usually couched in the context of signing or extending their own.

Free agency hasn't started yet and the team's available cap space can change in the blink of an eye.

It's unknown if a resolution with Demarcus Ware's contract will be reached by tomorrow afternoon, but both sides will want to come to an accord.

Dallas wants cap room, even if they don't plan on buying immediately when big money is flying around. And Ware wants his status determined, either he'll be a Cowboy or he'll want to be released before the other teams have made their big investments.

Whatever happens, it should open up $5M to $7M in cap space.

The Cowboys can also create over $8M in cap room by restructuring Brandon Carr and Jason Witten. And both players could still be released as June cuts next year, if necessary (net cap savings $12M+).

That's potentially $13M or $15M.

Yep it's funny that no one mentions the free agents these teams need to resign of their own or have to replace a bunch of starters but they have more room than we do.
