Comparable to Jim Brown, in what respect?

This year's production level. Right in pocket with that of Brown's best year. (first 5 games) And he just passed the best 5 games by Emmitt for the team. That is high cotton, and a demonstrated ability...now.

I don't have a problem with paying Murray some pretty good money. I just don't want the contract to last that long because once RB's turn 30, they go downhill.

Great RB's are not a dime a dozen. Serviceable to pretty good ones are. When I hear opposing coaches and defensive players discuss Murray, it's apparent that they hold him on the same level as Dez is at WR. He's a real problem for defenses.

I don't think it's just physical because he's vastly underrated as far as his patience and vision goes. And he is more than just strong and fast, he cuts far better than I ever expected and is fantastic at making himself small so he can get thru running creases.

He is also a fantastic blitz pickup guy. He screwed up once in the Texans game (I believe to JJ Watt, but I don't know many RB's that can handle Watt), but he rarely ever does screw up. There was one play in the Saints game where I saw the blitzer stop when they saw Murray and had no desire to try and blitz into Murray. He's also a solid receiver out of the backfield.

To me, we can pay Murray and possibly get rid of Carr and/or Claiborne to save some money. Since we are primarily a zone coverage team, finding zone corners isn't very difficult. We can also think about getting rid of Lee, who can't stay healthy and we have McClain who is quite good.

YR

We may not be talking about the same play but if it was on the sack, then I attribute that to Romo. Murray picked up the rusher initially but Romo holds the ball too long IMO. Randle was struggling with pass pro, just like the rest of our OL, especially the tackles.

And I agree wholeheartedly that great RBs are NOT a dime a dozen. And while Murray is off to one of the greatest starts by a RB ever, I still caution everyone about treating him like a great (ie saving him). Let him keep earning it. Even Emmitt was not Emmitt after his first few seasons, he had to do the work first. I would not pay big $ to retain Carr and Claiborne either, do not fit the scheme nor have they earned a re-up with their play.

He's "vastly overrated"?

What a joke.

Murray had a career average of 5.1 yards per carry before this season.

Yes, the O-Line is better. There's no question about that. But, he was an elite RB in terms of productivity. The question for him is being to stay healthy and that Garrett would completely neglect the run.

As far as Denver goes, they were never quite as great of a *team* as they were with Terrell Davis at RB. Of course, Elway at QB plays a role as well. But, Elway was an aging QB that wasn't as good as he once was that could still beat teams with his arm if the defense was set up to defend against the run. That to me sounds really familiar.

I honestly think that Murray could be that pivotal player that can take us to the superbowl just like what Terrell Davis did. Its kinda ironic that you brought up Elway. Romo's situation now seems very similar to Elway's back then when he took a backseat by giving the ball to Davis.

He was able to finally win his superbowl all because of a strong running game and never had to win it by passing the ball. I think Elway's path to the superbowl can be the blueprint in which Romo gets their himself. Remember Elway won the superbowl in his late 30s. So its not too late for Romo just yet.

However, if we let Murray walk and he goes to another and ends up bringing in the Lombardi for that team - I know a lot of you here will be blaming Jerry (as always) for letting him walk.

If Murray happens to get nicked, and misses a game or two, and sees that Randle or HOF bound Williams can put up similar numbers, then I believe he'll take what is offered.

Otherwise, he'll want to cash in.

To us, it's a game. To them, it's business.

I don't think Randle or Dunbar can come close to doing what Murray can. Dunbar is a nice change of pace and Randle just isn't as good as Murray. If they can't resign Murray, they will have to draft a RB early or sign a FA. Adrian Peterson may be very cheap next year. If I was Murray, I wouldn't push the bit of leverage he has too far. If he likes Dallas and the OL, he should find a nice middle ground and not try for a HR. He has a chance to earn good money for 3-5 years as opposed to great money for a couple years.

I agree. Myself I think Murray should be paid fairly as one of the top backs in the league. I don't think he should be getting Peterson money but looking at the top 10 paid RB in the league I think he will be looking at around 7 mill avg. If Murray over plays it and want more than that then he will force the Cowboys hand to move on. I hope that is not the case.

I don't think you can compare him to the best runningback to ever play the game, after 5 games. If he does it for 16 games, then maybe.
