I agree with everyone that our 1st pick should go to a d lineman. I also think that one or maybe two of the elite three rbs could possibly slip into the 2nd. It would be rolling the dice, but I think we can find Murray's replacement in the second.

Rbs go downhill pretty fast. Being on the hook for 5+mil/yr for the next 4yrs makes me kinda nervous.

I think they need to sign a contract that laden with incentives and based on performance. If he wants more pay why not give him a 3 year deal instead of a 4?

Negotiations is starting so thats a good sign. I think right now the Cowboys have more leverage to offer him a deal before the end of the season. Thus both sides can work things out and it would be a win-win.

I see your point. Just stating the fact that getting rid of Murray is not a decision to take lightly. We should focus on defense during the draft. If Murray walks will have to spend a high draft pick for his replacement and if that don't pan out, what then? By the time we find a replacement for him, Romo and Witten will be gone and we'll be scrambling for a new QB.

I know. It's not a great position to be in, with him having a record-setting season in a contract year, of all things. He's a really good player, and a great team-guy, to-boot.

I seriously doubt Demarco's camp will go for a performance based/ incentive heavy contract. Those are usually reserved for older or injured or players with two strikes on them. Murray's at the height of his career and on his way to having a career year. He should ask for the moon. I'd just be wary if I was mgmnt.

Let Murray test the market and decide whether or not to match.

Dez and Ro are my priorities.

i'm with you....Dez is a leader in this offense, clutch and a pulse of this team. Ro is the same on the defense. Murray turning the ball over 4 times now, a couple in the redzone i believe, that's not top shelf. there are many options at RB, especially in this offense and Oline

I really want the Cowboys to keep Murray but not at $5M-$6M per year. 3-4 years from now is a long time and do not want to be saddled with the cap hit if he starts slowing down.

They should be taking 500 though off the table for each fumble.

Big gamble for Murray.....sounds like a pretty descent deal.....Murray should take the money and run.......he hasn't stayed healthy for a whole season yet. Any injury could end up costing him a chance at FA money.....IMO 4 yrs is just to long..RB's are replaceable today...

I don't think people dislike Murray, though they aren't a fan of his fumbles.

I think people are hesitant to give a RB big money with good reason. They've seen a lot of cheap running backs come in and do great things behind great lines. Shanahan made a career out of this in Denver and Washington.

That being said, Murray might be special. He is on pace for over 2000 yards. I don't think just any running back can do that regardless of the line. So it would be a shame to lose him, especially to free agency.

I agree. He's never played a full season (averaging 15 carries) and now he's fumbling once a game. It's enough to make people concerned. But I still think the good far outweighs the bad. He's having a special season and he deserves a lot of the credit.

If he wants a higher yearly average, he has to forgo the big signing bonus. If he wants more guaranteed money then he has to take less per year for a longer term.

Either way, they can't use Murray's contract to create room for other guys by using a large signing bonus or restructuring it every year. If they can get him for a 5m cap hit and little Dead Money every year, making it easier to cut him, then that would be OK.

5 yr/30m 5m signing bonus 8m guaranteed

Year-------Sal--------SB------Cap hit
2015-------3m--------1m-----4m
2016-------4m--------1m-----5m
2017-------5m--------1m-----6m
2018-------6m--------1m-----7m
2019-------7m--------1m-----8m

I just hate giving big money to Tiki Barber Jr.

He is going to cost us a game if this keeps up.

Yea, I have not heard this reported anywhere else so I figured it was either made up or taken out of context.
The bottom line is there isn't going to be a deal made anytime soon. Hopefully someone will ask Rappaport about this in a couple of weeks just to see him backpeddle.
