i dont. everyone hypes that hit that either lott or atwater i can never remember which one put on okoye and so they downplay just how powerful of a runner okoye was.

when i was a kid i remember deciding that i needed to be a fan of an AFC team and watching okoye played made me choose the chiefs.

the man was just brutal.

It was Atwater that laid the wood on him...

An AFC team ?

What dat mean ?

Second favorite ?

Huh ?

Generally speaking you only play a random AFC team once every 4 or 5 years or if you meet in the SB.

I like watching football in general and as a kid I loved watching Okoye so I adopted the Chiefs. When the Chiefs play the Cowboys it goes away.

From former players I talk to, Earl just scared people when he had the ball. Riggins was cool (and 3rd, lol), but Earl and Jim (1st) are just in a different catergory and whoever did this list just didn't play against those two to know the fear it caused from the opposite team.

To me, the best definition of a power back is one that makes the opposition think, "Don't give him the ball". Noone in the game has ever done that more than Jim or Earl.

what does it mean when your own team says "don't give him the ball"
That's something I used to deal with a lot, bothers me to this day...

I'd put Campbell above Riggins. Other than that, not a bad little list.

Same here. Riggins was very good but Earl was a monster with speed. Watching him run over a LB and then out race the secondary was awesome except for the time he did that to the Cowboys

i dunno. campbell was a better overall runner i think but riggo was a better "power" back.

Cambell was just a better back period. Don't get me wrong, Riggins was a good running back, but he still only averaged 3.9 yards per carry. He did have 104 TDs which is 30 more than Cambell, but then again, Riggins played 6 more years than Cambell did.

Cambell: 8 years 74TDs (9.25 TDs per season)
Riggins: 14 years 104TDs (7.4 TDs per season)

If Cambell played 14 years (14 * 9.25 = 129.5 TDs)

Cambell also averaged 4.3 yards per carry.

Earl was also pretty much the only offense Houston had. It was always joked about in Houston that Bum had 3 plays Earl to the right, Earl to the left and Earl up the middle.

No kidding, I used to love using Okoye in Tecmo Bowl! He was a bull dozer!

Watch this clip of Okoye in Tecmo Bowl. It's absolutely stupid!

Mike Alstott = insanely overrated

I agree. He is good, but he ain't great. I would put Eddie George ahead of him on a list of power backs and I don't think George would make this list. There are some names missing.

One of the biggest hit I saw was a MNF game when Okoye and Steve Atwater meant in the hole. You could see Atwaters legs shake then buckle

I might be biased, but I think Herschel Walker deserves a mention.

I'm a big Herschel fan, but I don't think he ran as powerful as his size. He was strong, but he just never came across as a true power runner.

Cough, cough ...Franco Harris ...cough, cough!

I thought of him, too. I also remember the biggest criticism I heard about Harris was that he ran out of bounds to avoid contact. I don't know if it is a fair criticism, but it doesn't sound like something you want a power back to do. I was too young to recall seeing if he did run out of bounds. I just remember him as a good, tough runner.

Franco is not even in the same galaxy as regards POWER. He would be about #32.
