Is it just me, or is Troy Polomaleau really this good? I can remember him getting blasted in the media for being overrated as a rookie, and a year later he is the best defensive player in the NFL? While he had an outstanding year last season, does anyone else think he is worthy of this rating?

IMO he's probably deserving of this.

Safeties will always dominate this topic.

Yes, the guy makes plays on the field and was a driving force behind Blitzburgh winning the Superbowl.

Please, NFL live is a joke, well actually most of the ratings are a joke now anyway. Its more of what you have done lately thing than really good gauge of how other players really feel.

They should let Receivers/running backs and Tight Ends vote on this.. Somehow I have a feeling who they would pick......

Troy P. is over rated in my opinion.
I do think he is a good player but not the super star that ESPN is pushing down our throats...

I agree with the other poster NFL Live is a joke.Salasbury runs the show and if the others disagree then the cryin starts until the weak minded others give in

Name one player Troy Palomalu (sp?) has ever knocked out of a game, then we'll talk about who's the hardest hitter.

To me Troy P. and Roy are very similar because they both make plays on the defender with a certain tenacity...however Troy has the slight edge in coverage ability.

Your not being a homer if you think Roy is the best hitter. Its almost a fact.

Say whatever you want about him, thats something people cant take away

Hardest hitter? No way but an elite safety. I've always admired his game since the game @ Texas Stadium.

TP is no better in coverage than Roy. Simply, he had a very good FS playing over the top that allowed him to roam free. He was essentially allowed to freelance all over the place, which led to the number of plays he made.

Also, he REALLY upped his game in the playoffs. The difference between the current reputation of Roy and TP is that Roy unfortunately was beaten in a game that everyone was watching (MNF against the 'Skins), but very, very good throughout the rest of the year. TP was no where as good as Roy during the regular season, but everyone saw some of his great performances in the playoffs. For that reason, he will carry the reputation of being this spectacular player, when in reality there is no doubt in my mind that Roy is the superior talent.

Troy has a great burst, which is great for blitzing and making quick breaks on the ball. However, he is not a punishing hitter. I see him make lots of tackles where it's kind of like a chest bump with a push off.

Roy is a harder hitter, and has made more plays consistently. But Polamalu had a monster first 3 rounds of the playoffs where he was all over the place with everyone watching. This is why he's getting so much pub. He disappeared in the Super Bowl though.

I agree with you on being the top S, but the question is he the HARDEST HITTER. He is in position to make plays, but has he really tag anyone, not only as hard, but as often as RW or others? I don't know, I haven't seen enough to say. But I wish we had him. Not to replace RW, but he's a great player.

I think you're on to something with your comments.
TP said as much in an interview about why he has been so successful.
He gave a lot of credit to Hope and basically said the same thing you mentioned.
I do believe Polamalau is more effective in coverage than Roy is but is that because of Pittsburgh's scheme? Hope?
I think it's a little of both.
If we could turn Roy loose just a little bit like Pittsburgh does with TP...Roy would be seen by the media much differently than he is now.
Pittsburgh scheme is really something when you watch what TP is allowed to do.
I would love for us be more creative with guys like Ware and Roy Williams.

I thought that too.

Until I watched a few Steeler games. Troy P. really brings it. You could argue that he's in the perfect position to match his talents whereas other safeties are not -- but he makes you notice him.

TP has also had a much much better front 7 and overall defense over the past few years. He will get alot of tackles and make plays because the people in front of him are making them as well. Which hasn't exactly been the case here. IF our front 7 takes the next step it might be wise to sign Roy now because he could have a monster MVP type of year.
