His name would definately look weird on a back of a Cowboys jersey, but I would LOVVVEE to have him.

So?

He is still 31. His body is still going to break down at whatever his internal clock is set at. And since we don't know what that is....we go by age.

Odds are it will be in the next couple of years.

Hopefully he doesn't get a Nate Clements type contract from us. 4-5 year deal would be ok.

I disagree. The reason a 31 year old player usually breaks down is they have been playing for 9 to 10 years not the 5 or 6 Newman has been playing.

A corner taken at #22 will cost a fraction of what he'll cost.

Yeah, with a fraction of the talent. You pay so much for a guy like this because you already know what he brings, and that's worth something.

You take a guy with the 22nd pick, he'll cost a fraction, but he could also end up a flop and we're back where we started.

I'm not saying drafting a guy isn't a decent option, but people keep acting outraged that you have to pay for talent in FA.

Everyone has an internal clock. Playing 9-10 years can speed that up as the hits pile up....but you still have an internal clock.

Maybe. Maybe not.

And it'd be great if we could afford a big contract guy at every position. We just can't.

Talk about taking my statement to the extreme, what does getting a quality CB opposite Newman have to do with signing superstars to every position?

You might as well start a thread titled "LaDainian Tomlinson", because there's about as much chance that we get him.

Because Nnambi pretty much is a superstar.

It would be incredibly difficult to manage signing both both Nnamdi and Newman is the point. Your argument was that it'd be great if we could. Yes, it would be. It'd also be great if we could have a star at every position. But we can't.

Theogt is 100% correct this guy would be a great player to have no doubt, BUT if we sign him then you can kiss Newman good by we would not be able to keep him.

We could easily sign Asomugha to a pretty big deal and still keep Newman for this year.

I have to admit I wasnt very familiar with this CB,but after doing some research and checking out Raider boards this guy is the real deal and is flying under the radar compared to Asante Samuel because he only had 1 INT this year, but from what I read he is kinda like Newman that nobody throws his way.Could we get him a tad cheaper than other crazy FA like Samuel?

You are so spot on--this guy is so fluid and a great athelete.....I do not see Davis letting him go anywhere

Because Nnambi pretty much is a superstar.

So what you're saying is that he's arguably the best CB to ever play football? Very high praise.

Not if he wants a Nate Clements type contract and we want to re-sign some of our guys this year. Clements had an $11 million cap hit in '07. Obviously we could structure it differently, but if he wants in that range (and he should), it'd likely be a stiff hit.

No, that's not what he was saying at all. He was saying the likelihood of us getting him is about the same -- as in 0%.

Like I said, "a pretty big deal." Clements' deal was outrageous.

I've read that Oak wants to sign him to an extension, but if all else fails, they'll franchise him. Right now, he's pretty much untouchable.

I think he's a better corner than Clements, though, so who knows what he'll command.

I wasn't involved in the conversation about whether or not we could acquire him, there are a lot of players at the end of their contracts that we have 0% chance of getting.

I was talking about whether the Cowboys could afford him if they somehow got a chance at him, and said it was possible and wondering why people seem to take it as a personal insult everytime someone brings up signing a highly rated FA.

There were a lot of people moaning when we signed Bigg, how'd that turn out? There are a lot of fantasy threads of this forum for people to take things so personally.
