Second was a tad bit high but I sure would've did it before the 6th. They seem to want him long term if i'm to go by their actions.
Honestly think second would have been really good because we could have been set with a guy that could carry the load hopefully on a rookie contract.

In my opinion the more good skill players you can get on a rookie contract on your roster the better chance you have of making a run in the playoffs.
Gives you the cap space to make moves at other positions and get you over the top

Agreed- I wouldn’t be upset with a one or two year extension just to get his number reduced this year if it meant they went out and signed a player or two from the last wave of FA…if pollard bounces back from the injury he’s going to get a payday next year so wouldn’t be the worst outcome to get him reasonable for a few years just to protect the bet…but 100 percent don’t do a zeke type deal on a position that churns
Our last wave is ronald jones, we're fine!

No surprise and definitely the right call. Let's see how he performs in the lead role and returns from injury first before considering paying him

I mean if it came down to a tight end or running back I for sure go running back. Ideally I would’ve went guard in the second. Probably anything but tight end lol.

Fournette and McCaffrey are on their first contracts? Interesting
Fournette signed two 1 year deals with the Bucs, then a 3 year deal (he was released after 1 year). I wouldn't call any of those transactions prudent long term extensions.

The 49ers didn't sign McCaffrey to any sort of extension. They just inherited his new contract from the Panthers, with Carolina eating the $21.5M signing bonus. The first 2 years of that inherited contract for San Fran are quite affordable. In 2024 his cap number jumps by about $11M so expect the 49ers to either convert some of that salary bump to a bonus to spread out or maybe he gets released if they feel he's used up. Outside of the substantial draft capital given up, the contract was pretty great for San Fran.

If he didn't have the injury I wouldn't be against a 2-3 year deal. He was a part time player in college and has never carried the load in the pros either. He should have a lot left.

But the injury scares me off. Show me the same explosion first.
Agreed.Explosion and a 250 carry and 45+ catch season. I think he is that guy, but can he sustain that workload over a season/s?

Thank goodness. Run him into the ground this year and move on.

The 49ers are paying him around $12 million a year on average. They restructured that contract and gave him almost $11 million as a restructure bonus. Contracts are almost always "cheaper" in the first couple of years on paper because of how teams structure the contract.

With Pollard making $10M this season, it's hard to envision a longer deal that makes sense.

Remember also, Pollard is less than 2 years younger than Zeke. I know he doesn't have the mileage, but still...
They should have not franchised tagged him.
Back-to-back playoff seasons (that ended in one-score defeats) -
the Cowboys were not going to go into 2023:
1) without their best RB (especially after jettsoning Elliott);
2) going with areally unproven tandem Dowdle and Davis;
3) late round pick rookie Vaughn, and journeyman Jones.

The Chiefs cut RBs every year. Can you name the last one they extended?
Yeah but they don't need anybody but their QB, lol. There is but 1 Patty in the league....and we don't have him

I go slow for you.
Team drafts RB.
Team gives rookie contract to RB.
Once contract is up, Team chooses not to re-sign RB.

Most teams have adopted this theory.
