Have to wait till we see how he comes back from this injury
Pollards injury was not severe in the overall scheme. He fractured the small bone in his lower leg. Thats a small crack. Not a fill break an small crack. Nothing big at all and those heal easily. Then he had the equivalent of a high ankle sprain. NO torn ligaments or even muscles or anything of that nature.

Tony Pollard will be absolutely fine. There is nothing to worry about.

I go slow for you.
Team drafts RB.
Team gives rookie contract to RB.
Once contract is up, Team chooses not to re-sign RB.

Most teams have adopted this theory.
No Shine sherlock! LOL

But how many give huge long term extensions to RB's and have success doing it? THAT is the question.

That's the questioned posed to "Mr. Guru" but he doesn't seem to understand the question. All I'm getting from him is "McCaffrey, McCaffrey, McCaffrey".

I'm thinking name the last big contract RB in SF before the mid-season trade.
The teams without big contract RBs are nearly 10 to 1.

GB gave Aaron Jones a second contract. So, 1 of 32.

I broke that bone in my leg a year older than Pollard.
Not sold that he will be as fast or have the explosive moves he had before the injury.

I will need to see it to believe it I'll go on record now as saying we should have drafted a running back instead of a tight end.

Dude, that was nearly 40 years ago.
The medical field and healing process has evolved a bit since then... lol/jk

Agree.

He’s never going to be the same player.

I'm not going to say it's impossible for him to come back 100%, but I have to see it first before I'm going to believe it and I think we should have used a higher draft pick to guarantee that we had proper coverage in this area

Being able to perform at an elite NFL level isn't a guaranteed thing for a healthy running back from year to year let alone one coming back from an injury like that .
I feel we should have prepared better and I'm sticking to it

Well if that's true the running game will be awful this year.
There's certainly is that possibility but we could have hedged our bets and used a draft pick.

Running back is one of those positions that many times is never better then there days under their rookie contract

Okay, jokes aside.
I agree that it's awful thin behind Pollard.
Not a fan of Ronald Jones. I bet/hope a RB gets signed, maybe after week 1.

Back-to-back playoff seasons (that ended in one-score defeats) -
the Cowboys were not going to go into 2023:
1) without their best RB (especially after jettsoning Elliott);
2) going with areally unproven tandem Dowdle and Davis;
3) late round pick rookie Vaughn, and journeyman Jones.
No doubt.

I hope you are correct, but ligament damage is literally the definition of an ankle sprain. A TE friend had a bad ankle sprain, and it still bothered him a decade later. Most players would prefer a clean break over a bad sprain.

Agreed I hope we do something because I'm not confident in the running game as it stands.

People actually think there's a difference between giving a rb a second contract and trading for one on a second contract? Good lord

Appears the Cowboys will take their chances and let Pollard play this season on the franchise tag much like they did with Schultz.....see how he performs after the injury and try to get a team friendly contract extension next season.. Pollard will have to decide what he wants unlike Zeke who had no option. I doubt Pollard will get a better deal from anyone else, just don't see another team signing him for $10-$12m + AAS. So I can see him staying in Dallas on a 3 year deal, he still has some rubber on them tires.

But i do have to add that if Deuce is as advertised, all bets are off.
