I did not expect a long term deal with a player that is only now set to be the new featured full time starter ..and set to established his market value (contract year) in FA.

- If he has a record breaking year, ..and the Cowboys consider Pollard a Core player, ..then he will be re-signed ..(much to the sigrin of some fans here)
Cowboys re-sign their players that they really want re-signed.

- If Pollard has the looks of a change of pace type only, after taking on more of a full time role , Stephen Cap Bo will throw him a 2nd tier ...some other NFL team will sign Pollard,
and Cowboy will look for their new starter in the 2nd or 3rd round of the NFL draft, .imo.

He is more like a Preston Pearson-type back no way he will be able to carry the load for the season.
Someone is gonna have to pass a whole lot more if we want to score points that is.....

Pearson never had near the sheer home run speed Pollard has ...that's why Cowboys sought out that kind of impact speed and homerun ability in Dorsett.

He is NO Dorsett.........yes he's quicker than Pearson but both belong in the specialty HB category.

He's a better ball carrier rusher than Pearson,..but do we have to go waay back to the 70's for a Pollard comparison ?

I hope he does ok.

I think the speed will not be the same.

Jerry seems to think the same??? No long term deal.

So he will be UFA again.

Sure but that wasn't my point. My point is there's no difference if he's extended by the team that drafted him or if he's trades for. Imagine the giants signing Barkley to a 4 year deal and them trading him to Dallas after year 1. People think there's really a difference lol
The difference is you're looking at it from the player's standpoint and his
new team instead of looking at it from the original team's decision making
by deciding not to keep a 4 year starter who's due to receive a big contract.
The whole premise is based off of the team who drafted the player.

I'm looking at common sense. Seems others get what I was saying and not you. That's too bad

Always with the snarky comments.
Why?
Others haven't noticed you've changed the narrative quite a bit.

Your first comment in this thread was essentially attempting to debunk the
fact that TEAMS tend to NOT offer THEIR RB a second contract.
Once it was shown that you were wrong, you just repeatedly mentioned
McCaffrey.

Check it out everyone. Page 1. Comment #4.

Snarky? I asked you were fournette and McCaffrey on first contracts. A simple straightforward question. You responded with (I'll go slow for you)

Now you playing victim? Lil female. Next time watch your mouth if you can't take the heat when it gets returned

You seem to think you're tough.
I KEEP telling you that my comment is based off the ORIGINAL TEAM
that drafted the player not signing them to a second contract. No matter
how slow and simple I make it for you, you just can't seem to get it.

The issue is you can't follow along in a conversation. You have no "heat".
You're a scared little boy hiding behind a keyboard too afraid to admit
you blew it right out the gate. GFY

Yawn. I don't have to be tough to expose you. Your daddy never taught you how to answer questions like a man.

How old are you? Clearly, you're not too bright.
Can't follow directions. No reading comprehension.
You offer nothing to the conversation but juvenile comments.
All you're exposing is how ignorant you are.
Must've rode the short bus to school... "stillthedummy"

Yet you keep responding. Imagine getting controlled by a short bus rider. Yikes. I bet next time you'll watch your mouth with the sassy comments

some of the most successful teams extend rbs though. Why do yall parrot this garbage nonstop?
Just explain this statement. How many successful teams have extended a RB.
Try to understand the context and the word "extend".

NFL RBs are going to have to come to grips with the fact that unless they're a once in a generation talent like Adrian Peterson, you're not getting a 2nd big contract. There are just too many fails, and few - if any - successes to signing RBs to big deals.

Even the greatest RBs of the last 20+ years, Tomlinson, severe decline by age 28, Peterson, one good season after turning 28. There's just no upside to signing a stud RB to a long term deal. If I'm running the Cowboys, I would consider franchising Pollard again next year, assuming he has a good year. Not giving him even 2 years guaranteed, he's on the edge of where almost every RB declines. Maybe he has a long career as a backup/receiving back like Marcus Allen, but you don't pay that guy much $.
