No longer push overs on the Offensive line

Just wish they would have added some new youth at RB to go with the Oline youth overhaul. Offensive line is not only the most successful position to succeed with early round draft picks (someone posted the position success numbers a few weeks ago in a thread) but Cowboys seem to have a knack for it, so hoping these guys become studs. It’s a damn shame we never went anywhere when Tyron, Fredbeard, Zack and Zeke were at their peak.
Right. Every round came and went and nada. Very frustrating…..

We have obviously bet on the OL over a RB.

Rather have both but you have to start with the OL I guess. Hopefully someone bagging groceries right now can run a football.

If only the Cowboys put as much effort into the DL as they do the OL this team might actually challenge for a championship.
Actually, the Cowboys have used a lot of good picks on the D-line over the past 8+ years. The problem is they have missed way more than they have hit on those picks. Plus, Dan Quinn willing to let our young big beefy NTs (Bohanna and Ridgeway) leave to other teams certainly didn't help.

They never were push overs on the O-line.

They've had one of if not the best O-lines in the NFL for like 15 years now.

What are you talking about, Rocky?
I would have to agree. Steele was pretty rough the first half of the year last season, but overall this Oline was one of the better units in football. I wouldn't say the best but probably top 10ish. The idea that people think Biadasz was a JAG and Tyron was a liability is just wrong. If some combination of Guyton and Beebe/Hoffman can get you similar production to what the Cowboys had a LT/C last year that would be a win.

The few years or so the OL has been hit with many injuries. They went 2 years before they actually had the expected starting OL together on the field for an entire game. And that did not last long.

Need that continuity, which they have not had.

Not a bunch of old timers in the group:

Malik Davis 25
Rico Dowdle 26
Ezekiel Elliott 29
Royce Freeman 28
Hunter Luepke 24
Nathaniel Peat 23
Deuce Vaughn 22
I know most of us are not comfortable with the phrase by committee, but there's gonna be some surprises out of that group I believe my pet cat is Peat I really like this guy he reminds me of Tony Pollard similar coming out of college where nobody really knew what you had because he got limited snaps wasn't the starter but the guys got fresh legs he got enough power to run up the middle sometimes but he's got that extra gear of in that feel for finding and squeezing a hole and breaking something big...

Why would it be such a surprise that we find an actual starter at that group,

I mean how how do you know we're not going to find an elite back this happens with running backs most any of them can play well with a good line but you get that guy with that natural ability to run the football and he can be a star in this league...

I actually am not uncomfortable with this group,

I know the Dallas cowboy fans are so used to having an elite starter at running back a big name that they're uncomfortable with sharing the responsibilities over say three of those guys but I wouldn't count any of them out of stealing snaps away from Elliot, Zeke is going to be a role player for short yardage and goal line and blocking but one of these young guys and I'm putting my money on Peat right now if ,if ,and I mean a big if , the coaches give him a shot this can't be about the names or about who's been in the league and making a rookie sit because he hadn't earned anything I want to see a lot of Peat this preseason..

I believe the biggest problem with our running game last year was the coaches I don't think they schemed well but more importantly I don't think they put any thought into the proper rotation for bringing in the running back who best fit the play call they tried to force Tony power to be a number 13 down back and didn't work they should have never did that just because he was finally the number one and they wanted to prove because they paid him $10 million that he was gonna be the man he would have been better off following Rico in the game and let Rico take old Zekes spot and they just didn't get it done the coaching staff is to blame for most of the running issues just like it was with Kellen Moore it didn't change if not anything it got worse...

This offense can be far more explosive than it was last year just simply by having the coaching staff bring in the proper players for the play calls on the field yo matchup issues and I'm talking about properly using Turpin and even Vaughn but picking the correct runners for the correct play call against the defense that they would have an advantage on I just don't get it last year it looked disjointed like they didn't give a crap they just were gonna make Tony the starter and that's that was gonna be it... When healthy Rico was a much better first down back or a traditional running back than Tony and he should have got more of those carries Antony should have been by far the same guy he's always been and they should have tried to make him more explosive around the edges..

yeah this is 100% true but they only disclaimer I'm gonna put on this is I finally think we have depth you know interchangeable pieces if Hoffman and bass don't win starting jobs I think they're almost interchangeable with whoever the starters are picked and we won't lose much I think we got some young physical starters and depth on this offensive line.. But obviously this is just an opinion based on very little field experience between them all we haven't seen enough of them but my gut says we're moving in the right direction on this line finally we could never find the right left guard or a physical center or any depth that could at least hold....

I have appreciated the strength of the Dallas offensive lines over those years. Depth has improved over that time as well.

LT Guyton 6’7” 322 lbs
LG Smith 6’6” 332 lbs
C Beebe 6’4” 335 lbs

This is the future. Beebe may not be the starting center this season as Hoffman at 6’4” 302 lbs looks the part, but I believe he’ll eventually take over. If so, can you imagine run sweeps to the left? Dak will tell the defense, “Hey, we’re running a sweep left.” Then run the sweep and watch the pins fall. 5 yards a play easy. And the play action off of that? Haven’t even mentioned Martin and Steele. Question is, can MM adapt his WCO to take advantage.
It's looking like they will have a strong offensive line which will give the Cowboys a bright future.

If Beebe can’t play C, he’s a really good backup for Smith’s foot injury or Martin’s age. C or RT are the only upgrade options so I think thats where the C talk came from. The most likely spot for Beebe is taking over for the 33yr old Martin eventually. It is the last year of Martin’s contract although I could see him playing a few more years.

The run game in general was an epic fail.

Even in the 5-11 years with Campo I never saw so many running plays where the RB got hit at or behind the LOS.

Bohanna was never that good, and the jury is out on Ridgeway.

But since 1991, the Cowboys have used only 10 picks in the first 4 rounds on DTs. Only 1 in the first round, which is Mazi Smith. Over that same period they draft 13 OL in the first 2 rounds. It just looks like they prefer to draft OL earlier than DL. I am not saying this is wrong because DT is a position they could fill in free agency. Except, they don't believe in bidding on quality free agents either.

they have tried to do a little better as regards higher picks on the DL but still most of them have been DE and not DT.
I am always amazed that a former guard like Jethro does not understand the worth of excellent DTs

Actually, the Cowboys Oline finished 2023 ranked 3rd in Passing and 14th in Rushing.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/team/_/table/passing/sort/netPassingYards/dir/desc

The playoffs is worse. I believe they finished last in rushing yards during the playoffs the past 3 playoff seasons in a row.
