So much talk about needing a LG when we have Tyler Smith and Matt Farniok. I guess not many see promise in Farniok's game? I thought he looked OK out there last year and I expect him to improve this year.

9.99 RAS means he has the physical tools to be a good player.

I think people are overlooking him a bit. I do think he did ok in his first real action before getting hurt. People expect these guys to come in their first year and play at a Pro Bowl level. They forget that even many of the first round OL struggle for a year or two. Farniok played at an average to slightly below average guy in his first action. Another year in an NFL weight room and a new OL coach may be just what the Dr ordered. I really think with Farniok, Edoga, and Waletzko we have the makings of a solid core of reserves. Hopefully another one or two of the young guys will step up. Lindstrom, Bass, Richards, Ball or Bostick.

This positional group has become aggressive, talented, and committed as a team.

Seems like his willingness to adjust to what the needs of what the OL are should work in his favor.

I’d be shocked if Farniok was our first choice for even backup LG. To me it would mean we kind of struck out with our draft picks and also on Edoga. I also happen to think Edoga is better than many here seem to, think Farniok is only going to be seen as a center unless a mid game injury forces him into action as his position flex will have him active on game day if we don’t bring in another center and lastly I think we sign another OL before the season starts amd maybe as late as cut down day. Hose are the main reasons I doubt he is on our radar for PT as an OG…also, and probably most importantly, I don’t think he played very well when given a chance

Its 9.89 not 9.99, and thats his Pro Day. You have to take any Pro Day results with a huge grain of salt. Farniok measuring that well seems like home cooking

Chaz Green looked like he could play the game in limited snaps his second season (after he missed most of his rookie year). Then, the next season, he got exposed against Atlanta and was never the same.

Truth is, we have absolutely no idea whether Farniok could step in as a starter and lock down the spot or would collapse when given a bigger role. We saw what Tyler could do when the starting role was his, so there's reason to have faith in that. There's no reasons to have faith right now in Farniok, Edoga, Richards, Bass, Ball, etc., unless it is just blind faith because we haven't seen enough of any of them to believe that they are the LG answer.

After watching guys named Shiver, Proctor, Costa and Livings in our day, Farinok looks like a pretty good player by comparison.

I think the fact that he is the backup center hurts him as far as being considered as the starting LG.

At one point there was a report saying the coaches had him and McGovern neck and neck.

LOL...What video tapes have you been watching? Matt Farniok #68 started at Left Guard for 2 games last year during Weeks 2 & 3 against the Bengals and Giants. He played very well considering he was going up against one of the best interior DTs in the NFL in DJ Reader (Bengals) and Dexter Lawrence (Giants). Too bad Farniok got injured towards the end of the 1st quarter against the Giants or else he still would have been starting until Connor McGovern came back later mid-season. Here, actually watch his tapes...

Week 2 highlights: Cowboys 20 - Bengals 17

Week 3 highlights: Cowboys 23 - Giants 16

Matt Farniok is only going to get better with more playtime, especially now with McGovern gone to Buffalo.

The team seems to like him and his potential.
I like him at center. Like Biadasz, I think his potential is at center and not guard. Primarily because they both block better left and right than straight ahead

IMO, Farniok was better in his limited snaps than McGovern was.

Farnoik is the Cowboys top interior backup. The coaches believe in him. I remember against Tampa, game 1 when McGovern was injured. The Cowboys did not miss a beat. Good player. The Cowboys backup offensive linemen appear to be a underestimated strength of the team.

You almost have to try to have a PFF grade below 40…but somehow he managed to do it…

I like Farniok. The concern is that the cowboys don’t have anyone proven at the position. It’s also that with Tyler starting at LG. You are one Tyron smith injury from Farniok starting a ton of games.

He may be ready, he may not. It’s a big ? And question marks concern people when you’re trying to compete for a championship
