THEY ARE NOT IN GAME SHAPE, PERIOD, HITTING AND LIVE SPEED CAN NOT BE PRACTICED..PRESEASON GAMES ARE NEEDED, TWO FOR SURE..its bad enough with no truE OTAS or MCs a shortened TC and now no PS games, more injuries will happen AND PLAYERS WILL MISS DO TO QUARANTINE..
they will be using the entire practice squad and be signing street players by game 6
but if we have any full season ill be content..
How much do the key players play in preseason games? Do you think when they start games with starters on both sides, they're going full speed?
Back in the 70's, the vets took it easy on each other according to what Bob Lilly told me. He said that was why they didn't pit rivals against each other.
However, remember when the Raiders were our scrimmage partner team years back? They had to call it off because of the fights breaking out. A lot of that is caused when a player decides going at half speed isn't as much fun.
There is a scene in North Dallas Forty that according to Lilly was as authentic as it gets. It's when they're practicing and the coach has the DT go at Joe Bob full speed when it's a half speed drill. Coaches sense when a player needs a little hurry up in his gitalong. And they can control that, they can't control the players on the other team in preseason games.
bb, this is going to be a crazy season regardless of what they do. They're going to be feeling their way along this and there are most likely some real curves coming there way. What if a team really can't field a competitive team. What about games players like Mahomes, Jackson, Wilson and Rodgers might miss or Barkley, McCaffery or Henry, those RB's are the offense.
What they should be doing is going back to the practice levels before this china doll CBA deal was made. Get the hitting up, tackling, get ready to play the game right from the start.
The Cowboys don't need preseason games to test the new O and D, they need practice. They're not going to do anything but vanilla if they were playing in the preseason.
One thing that will be revealed without the preseason, where are the best coaching staffs at getting their players ready to play real football? I am anticipating the season now more than ever because this is different but I still don't know if it's going to start the weekend after Labor Day.
