With two games left and Romo sitting at 97.8, he'll very likely become just the third QB ever to register four 90.0 seasons before age 30. Barring a complete meltdown over the next two games, the list will look like this:

Four 90.0 Seasons Before Age 30
Favre 1994, '95, '96, '97
Manning 1999, 2000, '03, '04, '05
Romo 2006, '07, '08, '09

Something that Marino, Montana, Brady, Young, Aikman, Moon, Elway, Kelly, Brees, et al. did not do.

I am amazed how Romo's feats are mentioned as an afterthought.
Other than this web site I never even hear them mentioned

It's true. If Brees or Eli had only two more games to play in order to become the first QB to start his career with four 90.0 seasons, we'd be hearing it on every network, complete with obligatory dramatic graphic.

Even last night, until late in the game, it was an afterthought. NFLN kept going on about what a treat it was to be able to watch Peyton and Brees play on NFLN on Thursday night and on "Thursday Night Special Edition" (otherwise known as Saturday Night).

I haven't even seen it mentioned elsewhere that Romo is No. 2 all-time in passer rating.

And get this, 4 straight games without an interception. He only has 7 picks for the whole year. That's incredible. So much for "Turnover Tony."

It's just disappointing at times because we are much better 9-5.

No wonder our fan base is so schizo.

I think it should be obvious to all that the only thing keeping Romo from being considered with Manning and Brady is some post season success. Romo gets a ring, and he is at the top rung. Until then, he will always have that shadow on him.

We are damn lucky to have him, 20+ other teams would trade straight-up with us their starting QB for him.

NFLN also missed Romo tying and setting a new career mark for consecutive passes without an interception. He did it on the TD drive to start the 2nd half, with the sideline pass to Ogletree and a completion to Phillips.

In contrast, remember when he had a string of consecutive games with a pick? That graphic would pop up immediately after the latest interception. They were just waiting with it.

Romo is a very good QB, with a chance to ascend to greatness if he keeps up his level of play, especially now that he's figured out how to keep down his turnovers without completely castrating his big play ability (I'll take his 23/7 current TD/INT ratio over his 36/19 ratio from 2007 any day of the week).

However, I don't understand the fixation with QB ratings. It's not as if a high QB rating is that hard to attain in this passing era. There are currently 13 QBs with a 90+ QB rating, and 5 with 100+ QB rating (Romo, even with his stats, is ranked only 8th). Check out the league QB ratings from the 91-95 Cowboys era from pro football reference. By my count, during that 5 year span, there were 5 QBs total with 100+ QB ratings and 18 QBs with 90+ rating. I remember when a 100+ QB rating used to be a big deal, and now it's commonplace. I think the shift towards favoring passing in the past decade has watered down this stat.

Fair criticism. But I'm about to knock it out of the park, so bear with me. :D

Roger Staubach had a career rating of 83.4. Comparing across eras, that would be nothing more than an average accomplishment. But comparing Staubach to the players of his era (IOW, using the rankings as opposed to the raw numbers) you notice that he led the league in passing four times. (Marino did it only once, Montana twice, Manning 3 times). It then becomes a Hall of Fame accomplishment.

Throw out raw passer rating, and narrow it down to QB's who were consistently good enough early enough in their careers to finish in the league's Top 10 in passer rating four straight times before age 30, and you get the following list:
Troy Aikman
Ken Anderson
Tom Brady
Brett Favre
Dan Marino
Peyton Manning
Joe Montana
(presumably) Tony Romo

That leaves out guys who finished top 10 pre-merger, because top 10 didn't mean much in a league half the size of this one. But guys like Unitas, Layne, and Baugh were top 5 every time, so they should be mentioned. Bottom line, you remove the "watered down era" factor, and it actually emphasizes the excellence and consistency with which Romo has played.

Kinda like Dandy Don Meredith whom Dallas fans booed out of town and into retirement.

There's an easy, time-proven formula to mathematically compute whether a QB is "Great" or not.

1. Take his career TD passes thrown
2. Add his career passing yards
3. Subtract his career Interceptions thrown
4. Take that answer X (lifetime passer rating * 0.7)
5. Add his career rushing yardage
6. OK, now take your result and multiply it by the QB's lifetime number of playoff victories.

Now let's see if we all come up with the same number for Romo.

Not sure how old you are, but I was around for the Super Bowls, son. I don't hand out awards to Cowboys QB's until we win a few in the post season. Maybe that mediocrity is OK for you guys, but now me.

Roger and Troy are great QB's. Tony is great at making it into teeny bopper magazines.

OK "Son" I'm old enough to know that it's stupid to troll this thread bashing Romo.
I watched live as Roger threw the original "hail mary" and that's great but how does that make Romo any less of a quarterback?

Incidentally, Romo is shattering both Roger and Troy's records.

At least we agree that Romo is not in Dilfer's class.
