No Sacks

I am not surprised by the lack of pressure or sacks....that was what we expected this year. I am not overall surprised by the big plays in the secondary, considering the injuries we have. What does bother me immensely, is the poor tackling which led to a third down and fourth down conversions that resulted in points for the skins. Had they made those tackles this game wouldn't have been close. When we play high power offenses and we know we will be challenged in the passing game, we at a minimum have to make the tackle at first contact.

Hoping to be half the man Tom Landry was.

Our offense is carrying this team and the fact that they can do that with a rookie QB and RB is amazing

I wish we had more sacks, sure. But we are about the middle of the pack in sacks league wide and our best passrusher was suspended or injured for more than half the games so far. The big deal is our offense. Sack totals, not so much.

The talent just isn't there with the edge rushers. I actually love our rotation of DTs inside but they are usually getting double-teamed and the defensive ends aren't winning 1 on 1 battles.

Sad. This defense will be our undoing

Absolute dog crap defense
Yeah. It was looking pretty rough out there. And it looks like AB might become a big target game after game until he can prove otherwise. We're one more injury away from being the equivalent of Green Bay in our secondary.

Yeah, it truly is amazing that we are 10-1 with how this defense has played at times. I salivate at the thought of the damage this team could do with a great pass rush. Unstoppable is a word that comes to mind. hehe

Crazy we can drop 8 into coverage and still leave guys wide open all over the field

Soft coverage, bend-don't-break, that's part of the reason the sacks are low. When pressured by our 4 man rush opposing QBs can just get rid of it to an open guy.

2014...total sacks for: 27...total sacks against: 30...differential: -3
2016...total sacks for: 19...total sacks against: 14...differential: +5 (through 11 games)
on pace for 27 - 28 sacks.

Defense points allowed...19.3 ppg (2016 to date) 22.0 ppg (2014)

The secondary is improved but the pass rush is basically the same as in 2014. The sack differential is improved...so far...and interceptions are down...so far...defense ppg is better...so far.

The bad news is that the pass rush problem doesn't get solved until the off-season...if they get Romo's situation resolved in the most amicable way possible for the team.

The good news is that Washington (+15.3% /6th place FO offense) is the last hi-flying offense the Cowboys will face over the remaining five games:

@Minnesota....(-9.2%) 6th ranked defense and worst offense of the remaining games.
@New York.....(-2.1%) 8th ranked defense (offense will likely present the biggest problem, being a road game)
Tampa Bay...(-2.8%) 17th ranked defense
Detroit..........(-0.4%) 32nd ranked defense
@Philadelphia..(-5.3%) 1st ranked defense

The best defense they will face won't happen until the last game, which hopefully won't mean anything and they can rest players...with a 14-2 record.

Two road games...then two home games...12-4 (worst case) or 13-3 looks likely...and will that be good enough to fend off New York...splitting with them lets you forget about the Eagles in week 17.

Thank you.

All these people saying "Relax, we won" have obviously never coached or played much football.

This team has a serious weakness and it will bite them hard if we don't figure it out.

Every team has a serious weakness. Pats defense is mediocre at best. Seahawks run game is non-existent. Raiders have no defense. Cowboys lack a pass rush. You're going to have a weakness in this league. Sure it would be nice and far easier to pull wins out if we had a pass rush that could help us generate sacks and turnovers but sadly we don't. That being said, that doesn't mean we should give up on this season or concede it. Every team has a weakness.

And its working. Cousins was carving this defense up and I looked up and he only had 6 points up on the board. I think this is how the Cowboys want to play. We hear "bend but don't break" but that truly is what this is. Teams carve us up and get into the redzone and have to settle for a field goal.

Id' be interested to see where we rank in redzone defense.

of course that's how they want to play, it's by necessity and design.
going into this game Dallas was ranked 21st in red zone D. Not good, but good enough with this offense so far.

I agree with everyone else who knew this would be what our pass rush would be this season (again)

But the two plays that bugged me was

1.) scandrick with his half *** attempt at a tackle on reed? That led to a first down on a 3rd and long that led to an eventual touchdown

2.) whatever was the play call on that long bomb to Jackson... seemed all the underneath routes were open for a first down and Jackson burned brown who I'm guessing thought he had safety help?

Oh wow yeah that's far worse than I thought. Seeems like they do well in the red zone.
