THAT BEING SAID, he should have admitted his wrong yesterday. period.

...and who's to say he didn't to his players?

That's MY point. Period.

Jerry should hire Norm to coach the team. He sounds like he knows what he is talking about AND he has a personality........:p:

No, I think hate is a good word.

Growing up a child of the 60s in Far North Dallas, everything about Dallas was hated primarily because of the Kennedy assassination. Picking on Tom Landry was just an extension of that hate.

I'm talking about Cowboy fans primarily in Dallas. No way they "hated" Landry for something as unrelated as the Kennedy assassination.

well if he said it to his players, how is it an issue if you come out and tell us? i'm not trying to be too invasive, i understand some things will be said in the locker room and should stay in the locker room, but i see no disadvantage in coming out and just saying....."hey guys i thought it would benefit us to just let the clock run out and just kick from the 30 yd line, looking back i probably could have used a timeout and ran one more play. nobody is perfect in this business, but it's important to learn from these experiences for the future."

if jason just said something simple like that, this would be a dead issue and his players would respect him even more for admitting his error in PUBLIC b/c it holds a lot more weight when you do it publicly.

instead now, i guarantee you jason will have to deal with more questions about the issue today, b/c he didn't bring any type of closure to it yesterday.

You'd be surprised. Dallas had a taint back in those days and everyone, including Dallas natives knew it. We all hated ourselves and we hated anything that represented Dallas. Most football fans in Dallas basically forgave the sins of the past, and themselves, and got on the bandwagon when the Cowboys became a contender.

Like I said, I was just a child but I was not blind to the elephant in the room. The Cowboys winning lifted a great weight off the shoulders of Dallas but before that it was not pretty.

So Garrett gives a lame excuse justifying his incompetence to the media and fans, but owns up to his idiocy in front of the players? That would take some serious psychological gymnastics, but I guess it isn't out of the question.

What Norm does here is the easist thing in the world to do. Playing to the [strike]mob.[/strike] MAJORITY.

Fixed it for you. Mob insinuates a mindless response by a group- in THIS case it is about a large portion of the football following public, Cowboy fans or not recognizing and condeming one of the worst performances by a HC in recent memory.

Earlier this season as I watched the Rams playing, I noted that not only are the players bad, but what really makes this team a perpetual loser, is that the coaches are bad- they can't even manage the clock, have no situational awareness and no idea of when to call a time out.

Responding to such ineptitude, is not Mob... in is the correct and predictable mentality. Deal with it. Garrett had best fix it or he will earn a label for himself.

The whole offense looked "uninterested" the whole first half. almost like they were saying, "this is the Cards, we are the division leading Dallas Cowboys. somehow we can pull this one out with less that stellar effort or thought process".

This is spot on.

Nah, its a mob. Only a mob could be this crazy after we win 4 of 5 and go from 3-4 to first place in the NFC East.

I think I got it right.

Right between the eyes.

Or Tom Landry?

Yeah, but they know what they are doing, unlike our guy.

It's just another way of shooting the messenger. Had he been complimentary towards Jason or the Cowboys, he would have been hailed as a "reasonable" man and a veritable font of wisdom. Dare to notice anything wrong with the team and suddenly you're a hack playing to the "mob." Pure character assassination.

Get away with what, exactly? Being himself?

Anyone who will start pinning losses on a man's personality is a dumb **** and should be regarded as such. His coaching ability has nothing to do with how he speaks to the media or how he carries himself on the sideline.

I disagree, not every top coach uses the media, but many, many coaches do. In a variety of different sports.

Handled correctly it is a very valuable tool, deflecting media attention from players, building individual and team confidence, sending disciplinary messages, this is not a skill to be shrugged off as as silly or foolish.

You cant have it both ways db. You like that he keeps things "in house" but you want him to come out and tell the media this. All wins and losses are a team effort. If it was a player who made the mistake hes not going to discuss with the media he will handle it in the locker room. Same with assistant coaches and same with himself.
I dont know where you get that his players will respect him more if he issues a public apology to the world.

i'm amazed by your content nature.

yes, we are holding on to first place by one game.

but we just missed a huge opportunity to close this division out this week.

of course people are going to be upset. especially when 4 of our 5 losses were because of late game mistakes.

I picked that out as representative of what he does with a lot of this rant. He uses 20/20 hindsight to go off. I've already said I agree with many of his points, but I also believe it is over dramatized and at the end of the day, gives a distorted picture of the job Garrett has done this season.

A little perspective. We have won 4 of 5. We are leading the division. We have a great opportunity this weekend.

Actually Hodges was pretty accurate in his descriptions and a good coach won't need hind site to determine good calls from questionable, or in this case... blown altogether in some cases by sheer inaction.

The "picture" of what this team has accomplished so far this season looks good... from a distance. I am happy to see the direction that Garrett has brought to the team, but he is not due free passes for mistakes any more than any other coach or player.

Garrett must get better. It is not too difficult to admit that you are not perfect and hesitated or made a poor decision. Nobody here hates Garrett for the errors, and nobody would hate him for admitting such. If anybody here hates Garrett, it has not changed (and wasn't) because of Sunday.

I like much of what Garrett brings to the table- and what he has done "so far" with the team. Yes, we have an opportunity to play well on Sunday- just like every team. Doesn't take much of a coach to have an opportunity to go undefeated each season either- just show up week one- right?

I'll complain or praise Garrett each week as we all will. I get to decide which he has earned from my perspective, and you are free to decide for yourself. How's that work for you? ;)

First let me say I love Norm and think he's spot on w/ most of his comentary.

I read the first page or so of posts in this thread and I agree w/ them.

I have always been of the opinion that this team does as little as possible to win. That is problem one. Also, they take lesser opponents lightly, which is inexcusable considering the Cards have done this to us 3 years in a row. And thirdly, I think it was Drew Pearson (in an interview w/ somebody about his induction into the ROH) that said most of the players on this team appear to be standing around waiting for somebody else to make a play. I have been trying to say this for years, but could never articulate it as effectively as Drew. That to me is a coaching/managemt (Jerry) problem.

This is why I don't feel I'm overacting when I predict 4-12 seasons. If not for some coaching mistakes by other coaches (Harbaugh) and poor kickers (Wash and Miami) we'd be 4-8 not 7-5.

I will not be suprised if we do not make the POs and I don't think this team is PO caliber. I base this on the theory that if you can't pass algebra, you probably won't make it in calculus. And I really question if 90% of the team even cares about playing in January. I don't think they do. They just want to pick up their checks and start enjoying the offseason. Older players "contaminate" the thinking of the young ones, which is why we never get over the hump. This is why I think it was a good move by Jerry to get rid of theose OL guys this summer.

I think the answer is a new GM, but we know that won't happen, so we'll porobably get Norv if Jerry decides to make a change, but that won't help either...

It's not really hindsight when people are saying the opposite when it's actually happening. The gameday thread was chock full of people who were stunned at what they were seeing in the final 25 seconds. Just like they were screaming for them to throw the ball in the Pats' game on that next to last drive.

In my opinion, Garrett is irredeemable as an HC. If a coach 1) doesn't realize that giving the ball back to Tom Brady with that much time left in a hurry-up situation is almost certain death, and 2) doesn't realize that a 49 yd FG is only slightly better than a 50/50 proposition so he needs to get closer (especially since he has 2 timeouts and plenty of time), then there isn't much left to defend. If he can't be trusted to make the most obvious decisions, then no matter how much we like the cut of his jib, he isn't the coach we hoped he was. But hey, Barry Switzer won a SB so anything is possible.
