Norm Hitzges tears Jason Garrett a new one

This is my first post after the game. I listened to Norm, and some of the stuff he says I'm not so sure of, but I agree with every word regarding the last minute of regulation.

And before I go any further, I just want to say that I'm still in Garrett's corner because I have seen improvement in this team from last year....BUT...

Come on, man. I do not understand ANY of the last moments of regulation in that game. The pass to Dez was just amazing...overcoming a false start and a delay of game. I thought for sure they were going to be forced to punt before that play. And then.......time out? I'm waiting for the timeout to be called, and nothing happens.

What the hell?

Romo could have run any play from there...we still had one timeout. I was thinking they would do something like what happened at the end of the Miami game, but instead they wasted all that time...and then Garrett said later that, and pardon me but I'm paraphrasing, he was afraid of negative plays?

WHAT?

But THEN he calls a timeout AFTER that?

What the hell just happened......?

That was some of the worst clock management I have ever seen in any game...period. I really don't know what to think of this team right now, and I'm one who previously stated that I expect uneven performances and losses to teams we shouldn't lose to...but not like this.

Just unbelievabe....

Norm was spot on. It brings home how vapid and disconnected from the actual events of the game Garrett's PC was.

Vapid? Yeah, that about sums it up. ;)

Garrett may be a heck of a leader, but as far as actual coaching goes (and I don't mean pep talks and playcalling, but primarily actual GAME PLANNING) he's been making it up as he goes along since he got here, with varying degrees of success.

:laugh2: JG is the Tim Tebow of head coaches.

Norm is 100% Correct. The Truth hurts and Garrett is not man enough to admit his stipidity. He does not trust his QB at all and he is playing not to lose. Red ***** is "Princeton Smart - Football Stupid".

If Garrett doesn't trust his QB, then he should resign and go coach a team with a QB that he likes.

OH wait...nobody would hire him? That's interesting.

.
What is incredible, is that the week before he called a running play for 2nd down after bleeding the clock, after which Miami called TO. Then he called another centering run play for 3rd down and bled another 25 sec off the clock; called TO himself and left no time on the clock for Miami to work with. I thought that was nothing short of brilliant. I cannot remember the last time I saw a coach do that. I guress he should have saved some brilliance for Sunday...

Its not a suprise or a revelation by Norm. I've been saying for awhile, while i feel there are a number of things that JG does well as a head coach, he has alot of issues yet with his game management that he still has to learn and figure out. Its to be expected somewhat with a young HC, but you'd still like to see better instinct from a guy like Garrett.

Agreed. Good post.

i hope you guys are listening to norm and goose right now.

they are discussing the lack of emotion from jason on the sidelines, press conferences....he needs to be more HUMAN.

goose said being OC and head coach is too much for jason. said he needs to stop putting on this fake persona that everything is ok, when in fact everything is not ok.

it's funny i said awhile ago, this robotic/smug persona from jason will only get a pass if he wins. now after this loss, everyone is calling out his personality. :lmao2:

I didn't listen to that and I wouldn't. His personality as a reason for things is just plain stupid.

Garrett is a bad game manager. And he never admits he is wrong.

How many Head Coaches do admit that they're wrong? And of those who do how long are they employeed? I don't think you see to much of this from any coach around the entire league.

Calling out a coach for his personality is moronic at best. Saying he needs to act more "normal" to appease a group of fans or reporters is one of the most asinine things i've ever heard.

110% agreed.

Welcome to the psyche of the modern media and instant gratification fans.

I'm curious but are you saying that Norm is wrong on all the things he said?

RoyTheHammer;4293029 said:
Get away with what, exactly? Being himself?

Anyone who will start pinning losses on a man's personality is a dumb **** and should be regarded as such. His coaching ability has nothing to do with how he speaks to the media or how he carries himself on the sideline.

Exactly. Again. Spot on.

Whatever. Just go beat the Giants and all is well.

Lose and everything will be magnified times 10 and no matter how much you back him collapsing like Wade won't be enough to save his job.

Absolutely 110% agree with this.

That is all that matters at this point. Arizona is in the rearview mirror.

Yep. He just likes for the paying customers to feel like they are getting the full 60 minutes of quality football that they have paid for. Putting a team away at half-time is bad for business. Let it come down to the last minute and give the fans a thrill!

Brilliant! Just brilliant. I have always liked that Jason Garrett guy- always thinking about the fans and how much he cares for them. It's all about the fans. He knows who really pays the bills.

If you win every game, it is actually a bad thing... a bad thing. And we all like good things... good things. It's all a part of the process.

I'll say Norm's wrong about running for it twice on 3rd and 4th and 1. Just because we've had success on other downs and situations before that does not mean we'll get that yard. 4th and 1 is a power running situation and we're poor at them.

Edit: Just finished and he's spot on with the rest of it.

Finally got to listen to the whole thing instead of just going by the thread comments and I got to say, it's hard not to totally agree with Norm.

Well, the pressure and the spotlight is now firmly on Red. All his calls will now be scrutenized like never before by the national media. Hope he can handle it. The media smells blood and I'd be surprised if they let up anytime soon.

i dont like garrett. never have never will...and mark my words. he will NEVER win anything in dallas or anywhere else.

This is good. It's not the first time he's made very questionable decisions. This has been going on for 4 years now. He needs to be scrutinized and torn apart. There is a great candidate in Fisher waiting in the wings, and Harbaugh was ours to be had last offseason. There's no time to waste on this ginger clown. We have some great players in their primes right now.

If Denver's coaches can create a whole new playbook for their QB mid-season, then I'm assuming there's a decent enough coach who can be very successful with Romo. We'll never know unless we cut ties with ginger though.

I think JG will learn to manage the game, just not sure Jerry has the patience to wait. I think the bigger problem is this team doesnt game plan or if they do, they arent very good at it. We havent been prepared at the start of the game for awhile now. What bothers me most is that we are putting Romo in the position to make a huge mistake to lose another one. Romo has been coming through for us at the end of games, but he's bound to screw up if we keep playing not to lose. It's then going to be all about how Tony cant win in December. Sad

When I suggested that we at least interview other candidates, you should've seen the uproar. Not saying that JG isn't the right coach but to not even interview Harbaugh was just stupid.

I know its easy to look at the loss in the Cardinal game and the narrow victories against Miami and Washington and say the team is underperforming, but maybe we need to consider the possibility that the team may not have as much talent and potential as we would like to believe. Maybe we still have some building to do to reach that point.

So I am clear, I am not saying we don't have talent and potential, and I'm not saying the coaching isn't a factor that may have hurt at times. What I'm saying is that I don't know that we can really claim the talent and potential is so great that we should be breezing through teams like AZ, Miami and Washington.
