Norv Turner... Offensive Genius... Stats...

And Reid deserve's every kudo in the world for that... but the point is that it's still the DC that makes that defense go and not the HC-- and that's the way it should be.

These people that are running around howling at the moon because we may not address the HC postion with a defensive mind need to get a grip.

OK...

Our defense had a complete meltdown in December and we have no one hired as a D coordinator because we're too busy hiring the mentor to mentor the mentor...

Thats true.

Which is why it's pointless to bring in Wade as an HC.. he could be as good as the chin or Reid or Marty as an HC (whichs he's not) but it wouldnt matter if his DC is weak.

You could say the same thing about Norv too or any other offensive minded HC.. wouldnt matter if his OC was weak.

Although in the case of an offensive minded HC there is the caveat that at least from a playcalling POV, so many of them call their own plays anyway.

I dont even remember... has Norv tended to call his own plays as a HC or not?

Well said...

But don't tell the moon-howlers that-- they're waiting for it to get dark. :)

Sure you can give your opinion but there is a difference between an uniformed opinion and reality.

Our last 2 coaches were defensive minded. Our defense has been this team's focus for a decade.

Tony Dungy is a defensive minded coach - and his offense is worlds better than his defense (though it was the opposite in TB).

Brian Billick is an offensive coach - his offense is just now becoming something that can move the ball - he has fielded one of the best defenses ever for the last 7 years.

Andy Reid is an offensive coach - his team leans on the ability to play defense, as run by Johnson.

John Gruden is an offensive coach. Monte Kiffin's defense is the only thing that ever keeps that team competitive.

There are examples the other way too, but I think this proves your point, Winicki. A head coach's ability to be a head coach isn't contingent on his background or strength as a coordinator.

One piece at a time.

And did it ever occur that maybe, just maybe the defense isn't as big a cluster as what many believe? That just maybe it was due to the factors that are easily fixable---AND maybe have already been addressed to a certain extend by two people leaving the organization.

Plus keep in mind this was still a pretty young defense in 2006-- I think that caused some of the issues.

I kinda agree with this. I used to support the hell outta Zimmer, but regardless of his indictment of Parcells, it's always been the same thing with him.

But for me, until Canty and Spears decide to play well, this defense will suffer. For me, those two players are key, as they drastically underperformed this year.

Which is why I keep saying to bring in the Wades or Norvs as HC's when they're not proven winners at that and then couple them with Garrett/Bowles type coordinators is asking for trouble.

You'd most likely be better off with Wade/Norv as DC/OC and just having JG be the HC. Break it down to almost all he has to worry about is whether to punt or go for it on 4th down.

But again, it just cant be that way because Wade/Norv arent available at the moment except as HC's.

Exactly.

If those two "grow-up" or we replace one of them with a better player this defense will improve a great deal.

When two of your starting d-lineman are the 9th and 10th worst players on your defense you're going to have issues.

:laugh2:

They should buy a gift for Bradie James for saving them from being 11th and 10th.

Riiiiight Blind Squirrel...

So let's acknowledge the problems on defense yet focus our first coaching hires on offense...

OK Squirrel...

So two people left and who do we have replacing one of them?...

You don't think giving up 150 points in 1 month isn't a cluster?...

Get a grip...

Why is the most glaring issue on our team NOT being addresses immediately?...

Garrett was hired to mentor Romo...

Done...

We have a 3-4 defense and no one to coach it...
NOT done...

And now we're bringing in a mentor to mentor a mentor?...

That makes perfect sense....

maybe Parcells has sold everyone on Bowles
