Not complaining, but Draft broke poorly for us again

Barr and Donald were snapped up.....Beckham went early......JFB fell, but we couldn't get a trade value even though CLE, MINN and TEX wanted him.....then PHI gets the extra pick for sliding back.....

Zach Martin is a great value choice and should step right in, not knocking him. It just would have been nice to get a stud for the DL or at least get a couple extra picks. It was kind of anti-climatic after waiting all this extra time.

I don't see it that way. I saw Martin on two separate boards as top 10 value. If anything, Dallas got little lucky he fell to them. Now if they lost the coin flip with Baltimore and they took him at 16 and Dallas is on clock at 17 with no trade partners...then I could see your point.

Spot on. I would gave preferred Donald but I love me some Martin too.

we got a top 10 talent by all the "experts" at 16. great value and a position of need. we need to draft for the future, not just 2014. love the martin pick

You are complaining, the draft didn't break poorly we got a very good offensive lineman which is also what this team needs and the draft isn't over.

I'm not complaining about the Martin pick, but if you think the Draft broke well for Dallas, I don't know what draft you were watching. I'm just saying it was brutal getting teased by guys falling and then 9-13 took the steam right out of us. You should've saw the War Room, the were clearly deflated by the turn of events.

If we can get Jernigan, Crichton, Hageman or Tuitt, we could land two really nice players with our first two picks.

I don't see how it broke poorly. They got a damn fine Offensive lineman, and the O-line absolutely did still need work, so I can't see how we could be upset and think it broke poorly.

We brought in one offensive lineman for an evaluation and half a dozen defensive linemen. We got the one OL we liked and several of the DL are left to be picked in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That's a good break.

Everything I listed didn't help our position. We obviously wanted to trade down if Beckham and JFB were there and the Giants taking Beckham killed that for us. CLE wanted Manziel but didn't want to meet our price, same with MINN. It looked like Donald might get to us, but STL snapped him up.

I understand that the Draft happens the way it happens, but it could have gone better.

If you were completely honest with yourself, most fans should have realized there was a decent chance both Barr and Donald were going to go off the board before 16. So it shouldnt' be shocking or seen as things breaking bad.

And based on what I've seen, most teams that wanted JFF figured once he got passed St. Louis, he was likely going to fall into the 20s. The only people who thought the Cowboys would take Manziel were Cowboys' fans and the ESPN talking weenies. The price to up to 16 for Cleveland would have been too rich for their blood. If the Eagles got a 3rd, we'd probably have demanded a 2nd and there is no way Cleveland would have parted with that.

I don't see it that way either. So it didn't go as some wanted, possibly including the front office as well as fans, but rarely does never does. does a batter get the pitch he wants every time? Hits a home run or strikes out, or just a double.

Other than the top 5 or 8 maybe 10 picks in the draft, or teams with 2 first round picks, any team can say it didn't fall the way they wanted.
When you have 2 first round picks, you will have a good draft. You can say it fell your way. But the last 2/3 or even only last half of the first round, it will never go as you wish.

We got great value for BPA most likely on their board, as well as a need position. Sounds perfect to me.

If Donald fell to us yeah maybe. But if he fell to us and we took Martin still I still would love the pick. I've got zero complaints with how it shook out.

We could have rolled into 2014 with the same OL we had last year. Traditionally OGs don't go that high in the 1st. Our DL is by far the biggest need. I would have rather had more options than we were left with. Just because we got a very good player, it doesn't mean the Draft developed the way we hoped it would.

I don't think anyone saw Barr being a top ten pick, I thought for sure he would be there at 16.

What I do not get is the DL need helps group. They gnash their teeth that JJ drafted OL at 16 but he was the BPA on their board. It is on the record they were trying to trade back but no one wanted to dance. What were they supposed to do draft a 2nd round talent with the 16th so that some CZers would come in from the ledge or put away the pitchforks.

I see what you're saying OP, but I can't say it broke "poorly" for us since we got a great pick.

It just didn't break perfectly for us.

But that's to be expected a bit. 8-8 means we'll be surrounded by a bunch of teams that likely have similar weaknesses and have similar needs. Not to mention, 8-8 clubs are either trending down or trending up, but because of that, they're not clueless. They'll make smart moves.
