Not complaining, but Draft broke poorly for us again

we got a top 10 talent by all the "experts" at 16. great value and a position of need. we need to draft for the future, not just 2014. love the martin pick

Martin is a solid pick, but I never bought in to top ten talk that was coming from the draft experts. I was not surprised at all to see him fall. I would have been surprised if Donald or one of the top WRs fell to 16. Martin isn't a top tackle prospect, and he wasn't the top guard prospect on some boards.

Yes, he should've gotten a 2nd.

Wasn't an option. So you think Jerry should have stayed put and just selected at 18?

Looking at trades last year and this year, things have changed since the CBA limited what draft picks get salary wise. No one has gotten a 2nd for moving up in the first round. I see plenty of 3rd round picks being used to move up however.

Not sure how Jerry got hoodwinked by getting two starters (1 in the trenches) for one draft pick. Especially when you think about who we would have selected, and who we got.

We could have rolled into 2014 with the same OL we had last year. Traditionally OGs don't go that high in the 1st. Our DL is by far the biggest need. I would have rather had more options than we were left with. Just because we got a very good player, it doesn't mean the Draft developed the way we hoped it would.

Yes we could have went with the same Ol, and I think that was the plan, as everyone knows we need DL. And Martin is an OT, projected to play OG then move to OT, or move Free to OG, and Martin plays OT. traditionally if OG's don't go that high or not, if he's the BPA, you don't look at it that way. There is no tradition in the draft IMO.

Yes I would have rather had more options too, and it's not like they didn't try. Why reach for a DL whn you shouldn't, and a trade didn't fall their way, the players didn't fall their way. We got value regardless if it fell their way or not. That's the most important thing.

He should have taken floyd, and odds are that fredricks would have been there in the 2nd round.

people keep saying this but have zero proof. what if we traded down 3-4 spots thinking martin would be there and st louis traded up and took him? great, we have another 4th round pick but lost our last targeted player at that position. you get cute you get burned these days and that's simply the way it is.

it's also been discussed TO DEATH that last year the run on the OL was the most we've likely ever seen in the NFL and he was the best on the board and rated the best center of the draft.

so yea, screw around and think the run will fade and he will fall to us.

also, from what i understand, floyd is a 1 tech guy and the cowboys don't take those in the 1st.

It is the draft, there is no proof of anything.

Maybe the Cowboys should start considering bringing in one technique guys.

maybe, but not my call. theirs. they just don't see 1st round value in those guys and that's pretty well documented at this point. whether i agree or not is useless. but to say they should take a type of player cause YOU like him that doesn't fit their stated goals is just setting yourself up to be mad.

I heard Mayock say that Zack Martin was in the top seven players on several boards.

Sure, when you're 8-8, guys you want get picked first, but it's what you do about it that matters.

Dallas didn't overreact. They took the stud, boring guard as they should have.

I don't believe Fred would have been there for Dallas in the 2nd round at their pick. The run on OL started early last year with 9 OL going in the first round including two guards. I think the Cowboys played it perfectly, getting their highest rated player at a position of need in addition to another pick. The scouts had Floyd rated highly, but it sounds like the D Coaches felt differently.

Some had him ranked around 8 or 9 although I think he came off the board about right.

We got fantastic value. It just wasn't on the DL.

Martin is easily a top 10 player... even in this extremely deep draft.

He will be a cornerstone for the next decade in Dallas. There isn't anything negative about any of that.

Bottom line, the guy the drafted is basically bust proof. Barr has huge bust potential and Donald is a small man in a big mans game. Second most important unit behind QB, is OL. OL should be a strength for a decade. I question most things the FO does, but not this

It's okay to like Martin without making the argument that everyone else sucked.

I disagree.... We got ourselves a starting RG/RT for the next 10-12 years who has a chance to be a All Pro at Guard.
