Not Fond of Broaddus' Burpin' on Turpin

I’d argue that other teams with offenses and innovative coordinators would use Turpin more and more effectively. Sure, maybe he’s not a guy who’s gonna go across the middle and get you a catch he’ll get wailed on but there are other ways you can use him. In the slot, in space, jet sweeps (or other variations)

Broaddus generally gets it right and gives good advice. On Turpin, he is absolutely wrong. We are lucky to have KaVontae Turpin on the Cowboys team.
And there's nothing wrong on taking a stand on a player or coach.....but it's classy to go back and revise that same opinion when its been proven to be wrong

I can't think of a single guy that was right every time.

I remember in 2006 Jimmy Johnson declared the Eagles dead halfway through November. He specifically said to stick a fork in them they are done. They were 5-6 at the time

From that point on the Eagles went on a 5-game winning streak with a backup QB and made it to the playoffs. They beat the Giants in the wildcard round before losing to the Saints in the division round.

Jimmy is rarely wrong in his analysis but he was that time.

Hmnn...a five game winning streak....with a backup quarterback.....it has happened before......

In my opinion he should be the number 2 wide receiver this year with all the problems we had why not develop the guy this is where our coaching staff drives most most of us crazy this would have been a year to experiment with certain players to see where they fit next year literally he deserved way more targets you say four or five I say 3 he's a three on many teams from the slot he should get 5 or 6 targets a game I know it seems like a lot but the man has that juice we don't have much juice anywhere else on our entire offense he would be it you have to take advantage of it not behind the line of scrimmage throws in space or I don't know why he's not used more the way lamb is being used as a running back lambs hurt and they get him going too much from the backfield but we need to see more 9 routes we need to see more motion from the slot and get him open across the field he could be very productive..

The problem here the way players are used underutilized not utilized properly has been going on for some time and that's the main reason I want Mike McCarthy gone he has no creativity he doesn't seem to wanna put people on the field and grow them and doesn't know how to make it fit I mean guys like Vaughn and Turpin on other teams you would see them more often and put in the right play calls in the right situation last year I watched Tony and Rico be used backwards in my opinion now I'm not a damn expert but if you were to switch the way those exact carries went in this scenarios they ran in in the game I think we would have had a better run game last year and it started out this year too he didn't seem to figure out that Rico was our #1 running back he may not be a top running back in this league but if you handed him the ball 20 * a game our run game would've looked a lot better and you would've thought after the Pittsburgh game the light when it came on and somehow Mike McCarthy forgets he's on the team he gets he sets him on the bench he literally ices our own players it drives me crazy...

If you see a guy like Turpin have a big play like he did a couple weeks ago on a slant you don't put him on the bench you try that two more times a game from a different spot or in motion but if you know that team is not accounting for him then you burn that out until it's done...

Seems like every time we have a little spark in momentum from a player or a group for no reason they just park them on the bench Mike McCarthy brings out a whole different group like you don't see that play the rest of the game literally in my opinion the worst offensive coordinator that I've watched this year in the NFL when it comes to that aspect of using your talent properly and killing momentum on your own team..
This is absolutely true.

I've never seen a Coach waver from successful possessions more often:

If the team runs the ball well: stop running and throw it. Or vice versa.

If Player A has a great series or makes a big play or 2? Player B you're up.

What are you smoking? Or drinking?
He is far more wrong than he is right. Rarely gives good advice.
Picks players to hate on then tries to justify it by saying it enough, some fans actually believe it then repeat it.
He will make stuff up, as he tried to say Mazi has mental issues. He should been fired for that.

I much rather listen to Jerry's senile drivel any day over this clown Broaddus.
AC probably read a couple good reviews on Dak.

Five or so weeks ago--when the season had some remote hope of relevancy--I was watching a little Broaddus and Voch.

I just about gagged to hear Broaddus say that he felt Turpin shouldn't have a roster spot. He wanted the position slotted to a guy with more true receivers chops. Brian was in general just whining about franchises that take much regard for special teams players. And he was in particular disappointed that Turp couldn't muscle up on a particular catch over the middle

So here we are 2/3 through the season and Turpin has accomplished this:
  • Two kick return TDs, leading the league (one punt, one KO return)
  • 7.8 yards per touch when playing WR, be that running or receiving whenever he touches the ball. Not special, but fine for a 4th/5th receiver, and well above the Cowboys average yard-per-play.
  • Four total touchdowns
I respect Broaddus some of the time, truly. But when he tells me that only in the last year or two has he been learning about analytics...or when he's burpin' on Turpin...I have less regard.
I respect Broaddus and Voch. Really enjoy their podcast but they both have weird takes when it comes to the Cowboys. Broaddus said before the draft that he thought Guyton was a top 20 player in the draft then he seems to flip flop on him every week. He puts out stories about Jerry not wanting to sign Dak after the player was extended. Then he says the Cowboys will consider trading Parsons. Voch hates certain players and won’t change his opinion unless the player becomes an All-Pro. Voch sounds like a poster on this board most of the time.

Broaddus gives good insight in regard to all aspects of the game. Sometimes he can be whiny and Sometimes he's wrong but at least he'll admit it! He's hell of a lot easier to listen to than ambar garcia.....

Broaddus is a thin-skinned moron.

No idea how he has the platform he does.

I guess being a former failed scout with the team is enough. Very low bar.
He is a good scout, who does put his foot in his mouth occasionally. I love his podcasts with Voch. They will be teamed together on the Draft Show which is excellent.

Is he? He doesn't seem to be right any more often than any average fan who actually pays attention and has half a clue what he's looking at.
He is excellent if you watch him on a daily basis. He works hard at what he does and enjoys it.

He is making more money doing what he is doing and having fun.

I dont have an issue with him, but this take is absolutely stupid and that's proven out over time. Like I said, former scout.
