Not Fond of Broaddus' Burpin' on Turpin

I’ll give Broaddus credit for voicing his opinion.

That said, he’s blatantly wrong so often.

I’ll never forget last year during the offseason he would drone on about how he thought the coaching staff supposedly liked Hendershot more than Ferguson. Of course, we saw how that turned
That's why he is not longer a scout and is now a taking head. The former needs to be right 80% of the time on player evaluation...the latter only needs to be right 20% of the time.

Five or so weeks ago--when the season had some remote hope of relevancy--I was watching a little Broaddus and Voch.

I just about gagged to hear Broaddus say that he felt Turpin shouldn't have a roster spot. He wanted the position slotted to a guy with more true receivers chops. Brian was in general just whining about franchises that take much regard for special teams players. And he was in particular disappointed that Turp couldn't muscle up on a particular catch over the middle

So here we are 2/3 through the season and Turpin has accomplished this:
  • Two kick return TDs, leading the league (one punt, one KO return)
  • 7.8 yards per touch when playing WR, be that running or receiving whenever he touches the ball. Not special, but fine for a 4th/5th receiver, and well above the Cowboys average yard-per-play.
  • Four total touchdowns
I respect Broaddus some of the time, truly. But when he tells me that only in the last year or two has he been learning about analytics...or when he's burpin' on Turpin...I have less regard.
To be fair 5 weeks ago Turpin was a non factor.

- He for sure is a good return guy but Kick off returns are devalued so much by the new rules. The probability to get a great return is very slim. Most of the time taking a knee in the end zone gives you better field position than an actual return.
- He had some serious drops in the passing game.

I am torn too. Mostly because i somehow like the guy.

But also in the last few weeks he picked up his game.
He shows flashes of a game changer.
Maybe its because he is now playing with a better QB.

Mickey and Broaddus are equally annoying to me. One is a Homer, and the other stutters because he can't gather his thoughts, and is always wrong.

Perhaps what Broaddus meant was wasting a roster spot since they dont do enough to get him the ball.
No, that wasn't his point.

Bryan spent about 20 minutes talking about how the Cowboys emphasize special teams roles too much, and protect the roster spots of specialists like Turpin and CJ Goodwin. He spoke of this being a long-term beef of his, going back to days when he was in the front office.

He expressed that he didn't think Turpin belonged out there getting WR reps, in particular because of a drop he had against the Steelers.

It’s like Brady said in tonight’s game if Turpin wants to be more than a gadget player in this league then he’s going to have to become a dependable route runner.

When Aikman was talking about players running lazy routes it was Turpin he was talking about!

Yes. I have heard him say that in the past. And he isn't wrong on Goodwin.

I don't see Turpin as a #1 or #2 receiver. Probably not ever a true #3. But I love seeing him touch the ball on offense 4-6 plays a game.

BB is knowledgeable but that doesn't mean to say he's good at his job. He's in radio for a reason. He seems like a good enough guy but he is thin skinned. Thinks too highly of himself. He knows more than I when it comes to scouting. But when it comes to rosters, and who should be on the field, he's wrong. Turpin has proven he's wrong. Turpin has some baby Tyreek Hill in him. Lol. Teams are struggling to cover him lately because he has learned how to run clean routes. His kick returning is game changing. We lose last week without him. If BB had his way, Turpin might be on the PS or cut. Glad he's not running anything. Jeff Cavanaugh might be worse. Maybe a good dude but seems out there.
Is Jeff on any other shows now? I haven’t heard from him in a couple years.

I remember the time before BB was in the media talking Cowboys and it was super boring and uninformative imho, except for Galloway who made me laugh a lot. So, I'm glad BB is around whether he's wrong or right.

Turpin has quieted any critics by showing up big recently, and I have always felt any lack of production was due to the coaches failing to capitalize the skill set Turp has.

Bobby Belt has to put up with him . That whole SB winning scout hype line is too much .
