Not sure we need to resign Hardy

A top 5 pick isn't cheap. Talking 4/24m all guaranteed last year. Fifth year option would bring it close to 5/40m.

I think we can get Hardy for that and spend the top 5 pick on Goff or Lynch.

you bring up a good point. But I am getting sense that Cowboys fans are under-valuing Hardy market value. I still think he is getting 8-10 million a year by team desperate for pass rush.

If you don't resign him, you have created another hole to fill. We're stretching our resources thin enough this offseason with other holes to fill. We just don't need to break the bank on him. Last I checked he still lead the defense in QB pressures.

People don't realize that Hardy commands attention. Thus when the opponent doubles him it frees up another rusher like Lawrence or Gregory.

I'm all for resigning him for a reasonable price.

Hardy's a legit defensive probowler at a position of need. We need to consider resigning him.

That said, he needs to discount his deal based on everything else he brings with him that's not a positive. If his team is reasonable in the offseason, I'd do a deal. If not, let him test the market like we did with McClain and see what he gets elsewhere. I'd pay him well, but the team needs some reasonable downside protection if he gets himself into trouble again in a year or two.

Assuming Gregory has same progression we've seen from Lawrence why bring back Hardy?

He's nice insurance in case one goes down but I still can't figure out where the holes are on this team aside from QB. Defense has allowed 16 or less points in 6 of the last 8 games and Scandrick will come back next year and Jones should be better.

I think if you can't get stud QB in top 5 trade down and take BPA.

Question is what in FA or resigning that needs to be done on own team is more valuable than Hardy? Does money spent equal return when Lawrence and Gregory are on their game?

I wouldn't resign Hardy, too much money tied up into a guy that isn't the difference maker people think he is..

The cost is the biggest thing for me. Unless he's so toxic that he comes at an extremely cheap price I wouldn't bother bringing him back either. Use that money to fill out the roster.

I would not break the bank for the guy that is for sure.

Even if Scandrick returns and Jones improves, we'll still need another DB or two. Probably two. Gotta replace either Wilcox or Church. Plus I'm guessing that both Carr and Claiborne will be gone.

Another MLB will probably be brought in as well.

On offense we obviously need to find a RB. I don't know T. Williams contract situation but I'd look at WR2 as well. Finally one could argue that TE could be a need with Escobar's injury and Witten clearly slowing down.

you guys thinking that Hardy is going to sign for "not break the bank money" are deluding yourselves.

He wants to get paid, and someone is going to pay him.

It shouldn't be us.

He's a ***** human being and this team is going to be bad either with him or without him. Will it create a hole? Sure. Fill that hole in the draft.

I'm glad he isn't playing on the same level as he was early on, it will only make him cheaper to sign, if they wanted to. But he has the ability, I'm just being off for a year and a half didn't help. He can be elite, and is young enough to be. Only worry would be progress stopping for Gregory

I think people underestimated the impact of Hardy being off for a full year. He fooled people when he came back and had a strong game against New England, but the season has taken its toll on him. Besided that, he is trying to shake off jnjury.
If he's available for cheap, he'll be back. We haven't accomplished what we need to with Hardy.

I say let him test the market and if the numbers work, keep him...

Unless it's a cheap, friendly deal, I'd pass...... Sign someone like Vinny Curry instead and use the saved money for a 1 tech or pour the money into Berry.

I could see Carr staying because he's still a decent CB2 and cutting/replacing him would probably use about all the cap benefit of releasing him. Better the player you know then the one you don't, that's especially true with the other starting CB from this year likely being gone.

It seems as though Safety Eric Berry would make a bigger difference on this specific squad than another DE because of the depth at position on the DL vs Saftey. Though signing Hardy to another incentive laden deal wouldn't translate into a negative.

It is going to take at least $12 million a season to resign Hardy.

I would rather see them spend that money else where, preferably the secondary.

Hopefully Gregory and DLaw will continue to develop.

only caught second half of game but DL looked beastly. Watched Gregory bull rushing OL back into QB. With Gregory and Lawrence really improving I am leaning on not resigning Hardy and use that money on signing two of next three options: DT/CB/LB.

Need to see more from Gregory before I'd be comfortable going with what we've got without Hardy.

.

Hopefully means, taking a risk on banking for them to become a force without the benefit of a proven pass rusher to draw the double teams that free up DLaw and Gregory for single blocking.
