A blitz is anytime a defense rushes a player not lined up on the LOS in a 3 or 4 point stance at the snap of the ball.
Oh wow. This is hilarious. Probably worse than the 30-yard slant. By this standard Dallas blitzes EVERY SINGLE PLAY in the 3-4 alignment.

Not true. Check the second INT by Burnett. 4 men in downed stances, 4 men rush the QB. Not blitz. The majority of Colts final drive is this way as well. 3 or 4 down linemen with no pressure from the DBs or LBs. Dallas has often played conservative football and rushed only 3 down linemen out of the 3-4 this season, as well as last year.

The 3-4 defense is designed specifically to disguise pass rushers. While you are still often rushing only 4 men, it is still a blitz by definition. There is not a set number of men that have to rush for it to be a blitz by the definition of the term.

Shoot, if you are going to post a link as proof of your stance, you damn well better read through the whole thing.

God, this is too easy.

I read that, but by rule it's a contradiction. If you go by the stated rule, accepted rule of rushing men not on lined up at the snap in a downed stance, rushing 4 men from the 3-4 is a blitz. Even after that fact, he states that rushing 5 men is not even a blitz, a laughable assertion. You can really wish to believe rushing 4 men is not a blitz, then fine, but by rule it is.

A blitz is 5 or more defenders rushing the QB. This is not a controversial concept. You learn this in Pop Warner football. You have proven beyond a doubt that you know nothing of football.

please, my friends, forgive him.

This is simply the result of a Rowlett HS education.

:-D

That stated, accepted "rule" exists only in your head.

So you yourself are going to contradict your own arguement by stating 5 men CAN be a blitz? According to your cited evidence, it is not.

I played football from the time I was 7 through my senior year of high school. I played defense my whole life. This spans 6 different coaches. From pop wanrer to my senior year, every last one of these coaches reffered to rushing any man not on the line at the snap as a blitz. I've enver met a coach at any level who says otherwise. Ever. Even when trying to walk on at A&M, Carl Torbush kept to this.

I heard we got crushed by Allen

I guess you have a point though, as all my coaches at Rowlett had my definition of a blitz. ;)

Anyway, that's enough for tonight. Gotta pack for the trek up to Tyler for the annual meeting of the family.

I was the one that posted that quote...and it was from evidence that YOU CITED to help YOUR argument. Do you even think before you post?

Well you can't even tell what poster posted what (I didn't cite to the Wiki article). I doubt you've ever played football. You are, however, a true Norman Einstein.
