I preordered last week.
Scheduled for 9/16/17 delivery,

I got it yesterday 9/5/17

Observations.

1. It's fast. Grease lightening.
2. It's very long and thin. I would have made it fatter.
3. It's only slightly bigger than note 8 plus, cost $300 more. So unless you are a note Series fan. Just buy note 8 plus. It's the same phone minus stylus and note features.
4. It does have ads on things like alarm clock. Me no likey. Gotta get app to undo that or pay $2.99... that's just crap,
5. Get a good case with edge protection and corner bumpers. I'll post links in a bit.

Overall. Love it. Love that's it's updated phone. tech.

My wife is getting hers today. She's super excited.

See how hers does, and if it doesn't explode I might upgrade to it lol. Think I have a Note 5.

Wish i wouldve waited and got the note. Hate the s8. Breaks so easily and most games/content are not formatted for this long screen.

I'll post more review soon.

Here are what I find to be the best cases with great protection and not too much bulk.

In my preference order.
Note (pun intended) that they have extra protection at the corners AND... there is thick protection near the "edge" of screen.

Add on review part

1. Font through entire phone is very small. Go to settings and search for "font". Increase those bad boys. Much, much better.

********

2. Clock display has three times to display a clock. The default two digits over two digits is uggggggleeeee

This is default. You can't really change it on (phase

01

Display as in you looking at phone. Not different display options.

Display 1 shows when phone is not in use = AOD = Always On Disokaylock // YOU CAN CHANGE CLOCK TO NORMAL VIEWING OPTIONS. (Settings>lock screen and security>always on display> here you will chose first clock, then bottom left "clock style" (change font color and background options) ... there are 4 options. But only change AOD display

////////////

Display 2 shows when you are about to unlock phone = lock Screen
Unless you get a 3rd party app, the lock screen will show

But... if you have notifications it will show 10:01 .... until you clear notifications.... then back to

///////////

Display 3 shows once you've unlocked the phone = home screen
Here you can pull in a default widget and display a deep fferent from the above two clocks 10:01

Is it rootable? I have the Note 4, but I didn't realize when I bought it that this one is not rootable and only some phones can be rooted.

Not sure.
I have not messed with phones like that for years,
I was infatuated with that for about a year... done for now lol

Keep me posted though if you get and do root it.
Pros, cons etc. I am interested.

Is it possible to replace the Note 8's battery, at least with a battery kit? If I got one,I would not want to be at the mercy of whatever battery I get. Wanna be able to replace it and keep going if the battery goes bad.

From what I've seen, root isn't available...yet. I have a Galaxy S8+ and we JUST got root. Samsung isn't playing nice these days to us 'developers' which in turn is making it harder for us to achieve root. Once it does, jump all over it. There are way too many pro's to list and they greatly outweigh the few con's. My top 2 pro's for rooting...completely remove all of that bloatware Samsung & your carrier have installed on that awesome phone. Bloatware just slows down the phone. Not to mention it's ability to track EVERYTHING you do on the phone. Next would be the ability to do complete backup including all of your apps and all of the apps data. If something ever caused me to do a factory reset, I could have my phone restored to my exact preferences in under 15 minutes.

Funny story, i got the Note 4 a few years ago, I had an assistant coach that everyone called mini me, cuz he was always trying to kiss my butt. He went out and got one too. The problem was that I am 6'4" and he is 5'4" (look at my avatar) the note 4 looked like an Ipad in his hands. The staff gave him hell for 24 months. LOL,

I did the battery thing for a while.... extended battery with oversized cover.

Now... I've got it down to a routine,

1. I do a full charger every night.
2. When I go out I reduce brightness yo 60-75% or so
3. Turn off gps if not using it. If I do, I plug in charger at 100% and it stays 95-100% while navigating.

Yup, you've described all the reasons why I want a rootable phone. I'm sick of bloatware. I constantly get a banner telling me my SIM card is not from Verizon. I know that. I don't use Verizon, but I have an ex Verizon phone. I also can't stand apps that re-initiate themselves after you've killed them. I should be able to decide what I do and what I don't want to run.
