Yup, you've described all the reasons why I want a rootable phone. I'm sick of bloatware. I constantly get a banner telling me my SIM card is not from Verizon. I know that. I don't use Verizon, but I have an ex Verizon phone. I also can't stand apps that re-initiate themselves after you've killed them. I should be able to decide what I do and what I don't want to run.

Lol...completely understand. Do me a favor and download bk package disabler from the play store. This was a huge help while I was waiting on root. You can disable whatever you want and it STAYS disabled. You can disable system apps, too, but be careful with those guys. Oh, if you disable something that causes something to not work right, just go back into the app and enable it.

Still using my Note 4.
Never had an issue with it so far.
I do have an awesome Zerolemon battery on it tho.
I used a Note 4 for a long time, until I jumped into a pool with it about 1 month before the Note 7 came out. I was out of town when it came out so I didn't get it immediately then they started exploding on people. I've been using a $30 phone since then waiting... Ha. I'm glad to finally get another Note.

LOL. Oops. I'll try to remember not to jump into a pool with my Note 4.

Did you get that first one?
Did you order a screen protector?

I bought all three.

My choice is the first one.

My reasons:

1. It has the extra protection on the corners.
2. It has hard square button that stick out from side that act like a grip. The other two are smooth. No grip. You won't feel those slipping, but the first one you will.
3. It has the Panasonic toughbook look. I like that look. I got it in light blue.

I never liked screen protectors. I don't use them.

Still have my note 4 but plan on upgrading soon..>Still have not decided on the 8+ or the Note 8.

My gut tells me the Note 8 because it seems like Note phones just hold up better and for longer.

As far as rootable or bloat ware...you can get apps that remove all the bloat ware you want...I got one on both my Note 4 and my samsung tablet. (package disabler pro)

Although frankly with the amount of Ram on the new Note...the bloat ware that is on there should not be a problem in slowing down your phone...Actually it was really not much of a factor on the Note 4 but I just wanted to try the app.

I wish I would have had the money for the pre order sets that I am seeing out there on youtube.

Looks like some got a killer deal with the phone, the cordless charging pad, a 128 or 256 gb Micro SD card and some with the Gear VR included.

I also think the new LG V30 looks like a pretty good phone.

Yeah I dropped my note 2 in pool by pool bar... taking pictures....Heh heh.

I pulled it out quick. Everyone was like, oh man...

I said... it's waterproof (that was 4 years, it wasn't lol) but we were all at the bar... so it was believed.

I went to hotel room later and dried it with hair dryer. It started up. I sent them all the pictures. Lol

But.... the speaker was damaged ultimately. Later on, you couldn't hear people too good.. they couldn't hear you. No more speaker phone. Meh...

As I mentioned. The S8 plus and note 8 are practically the same size.... same phone. It's kinda silly.
Almost $300 more for note 8 though.,,

Note has a few more features and from my past exp they normally will hold up a great deal better than the normal galaxy phones.
I think the note generally holds up better due to the extra gig or two of memory that helps with newer apps or regular apps as they grow larger. Plus it helps with mult tasking.

The one thing I worry about with this new note is the Battery size. The S8+ actually has a larger battery.

There's an ad on the alarm clock... can you just delete it and use another app for alarms?

Finally got mine earlier this week. Been messing with it and I really like it.

A few things. They must have made some updates from when OP got phone.

There are options to go in and change the clock display on the always on display. I have changed it to the

8:00
FRI, NOVEMBER 10
90% (battery symbol)

Format... And also course the option to put some other info like name and number so if someone finds it they know who to call.

Also loving new fingerprint scanner and use it all the time now. Many reviews complained about its placement and initially I thought it would be weird but it really is not once you use it a couple times.

Also like messing with Google assistant and Bixby. I like the button but wish you could hang the option to change it to use with other apps. Kind of would like to use the Bixby button on Google assistant lol

I Hanes noticed my text messages now stay oin order. Oddly in my note 4 it would show mine first and bunched and then the persons I was texting. Any time I would have a conversation in text with wife mine would be bunched together before my wife texts... It was annoying.

Example I would as a question she would answer and I would ask another and she would answer.. Instead of showing those in order...

Me - Hey what are you doing.
Me - what are you making.
Me- Sounds good, see you later.

Her - just making dinner
Her - Spaghetti and garlic toast
Her - ok see you later

Now on new. Phone is is back. To normal.

The camera takes great pictures and editing photos in stock photo edit pro can really make them look special.

Making animated gifts from a live writing option with a pen is cool and fun.

Same with making animated gifs from YouTube videos with the s pen.

Using note buddy app to make my S pen sound like a light Saber when opening or closing. Pen.

Edge. Lighting option looks cool when getting a call

And other things I am still learning.

Also had two different people say that they hear me better on this phone.

Went from the Note5 to Note8, and its ridiculous how much LONGER the battery lasts, and how much FASTER it charges.

Best phone ever.

To reiterate there are theee displays,

From my earlier post

Add on review part

1. Font through entire phone is very small. Go to settings and search for "font". Increase those bad boys. Much, much better.

********

2. Clock display has three times to display a clock. The default two digits over two digits is uggggggleeeee

This is default. You can't really change it on (phase
10
01

Display as in you looking at phone. Not different display options.

Display 1 shows when phone is not in use = AOD = Always On Disokaylock // YOU CAN CHANGE CLOCK TO NORMAL VIEWING OPTIONS. (Settings>lock screen and security>always on display> here you will chose first clock, then bottom left "clock style" (change font color and background options) ... there are 4 options. But only change AOD display

////////////

Display 2 shows when you are about to unlock phone = lock Screen
Unless you get a 3rd party app, the lock screen will show
10
01

But... if you have notifications it will show 10:01 .... until you clear notifications.... then back to
10
01

///////////

Display 3 shows once you've unlocked the phone = home screen
Here you can pull in a default widget and display a deep fferent from the above two clocks 10:01

You can change font size and style.

I just changed fonts to Gothic bold. But you can make them larger with font size slide.

I was only talking about the always on display... You said it was default and you "can't really change it".

I was just pointing out that you can change it.

Later on you say you can change

Sorry if I misunderstood but it was a little confusing .

Lol

I just read it again... AOD “you CAN CHANGE”

My issue was/is with display once you double tap home button.
If you clear all notifications. The ten becomes 2 digits over 2 digits. That hasn’t changed,
If you have notifications then it holds time format of 4 digits inline,
