Nothing's guaranteed for Jonathan Mingo, could be competing for roster spot in 2025

This guy has been in the NFL awhile now, we know what he is. If he’s on the team it’s because Jerry gave up a 4th round pick and Jerry’s ego.

Cowboys WR depth is sneakily good this year going into camp after the addition of Pickens. If Holden or Flournoy outperform Mingo in camp I doubt for a second the Cowboys are keeping Mingo. The issue with Mingo is that he is running out of development time having just two years left on his rookie deal. If he isnt ready to contribute and younger guys are the Cowboys are going to invest their time into working with a guy like Holden. The roster math is not Mingos friend this year.
I guarantee Mingo will not get cut off this team.. He was here 1/2 a season they're not going to make a trade like that and not give him a full season to either prove he's worth being here or he's worth not keeping next year they will not cut him it just won't happen they will go long on receivers before they do that maybe they'll go short on tight ends who knows typically I believe they might keep 6 on the active roster as far as the 53 and then they're going to still have one or maybe two on the practice squad but anybody here that thinks he won't make the team the man got 1/2 a season people it doesn't even make common sense that he won't get a chance in a new offense with a new team to see what he can do during the regular season and throughout practices in the whole entire year....

It's a bonus if it's deep but anybody who thinks that he's getting cut like in this article anybody who thinks he won't make the team he'd have to be absolutely downright horrible and I mean horrible like drop every pass thrown to him and probably get pulled over for a DUI and slapped a police officer then he might get cut from the team for sure lol

Who would be the 3rd? kavontae turpin or Tolbert
Tolbert is an absolute lock at number three doesn't matter who's on this team he already earned it he was close to a number 2 he put a very valid numbers to be the number three that's it turpin will get number four he'll get worked into the offense I hope they use him better but those four spots and the depth chart are locked...

Nobody thinks it’s a good trade here.

But people have a sense of reality that after trading a 4th for a guy with 2 years left on his rookie deal is pretty much a lock on the 53. They aren’t cutting him in less than a year.

Trade sucked. But he’s a Cowboy in 2025
:hammer:

Yeah, right. They kept Lance, didn't they? And they really didn't want to play him even when the season was lost. I know it's not exactly the same thing but it's still a 4th round pick.

Holden, Cropper, Campbell, Flournoy, Harmon and Brooks are all better prospects.

Seth Williams is also likely a better player.

I have Josh Kelly and Mingo neck and neck for that last place spot.

1 game on, 1 game off.......we need players to show up every week.

For the record, I believe he will good in a contract year, I'm just jaded and expect us to do the wrong thing these days
Seems like these players know how to turn it on in a contract year, maybe that's the goal, go great in a contract year to earn that big pay day

By the way, Seth Williams is a pretty good option too.

He has great body control, and would fit in nicely with the other players. IMO.

Ideally Mingo balls out in camp and its not even a discussion. The issue is you have most likely 4 players already guaranteed roster spots assuming good health:

Lamb
Pickens
Tolbert
Turpin

Leaves likely two spots for

Mingo
Campbell
Holden
Flournoy and some others with longer odds to make it

Personally I think Campbell is a Schottenheimer type of player and has a better chance to make the roster, but thats just my opinion. They could look to keep 7 as you suggested, but I'm skeptical especially if Blue can give you some snaps at WR his rookie year.

I bash the Cowboys in certain areas, but this year depth certainly wont be one. They've done a very nice job creating bottom of the roster competition and may look to go long at RB, DT, DE, OL, and possibly even CB due to injury concerns. We will see as we get closer to camp, its a ton of speculation right now, but with a mostly new coaching staff I'm not counting out some surprises on the 53 man.

He had 43 catches for 418 yards as a rookie. His 2nd year he had a new coaching staff that traded him to the Cowboys. This is only his 3rd season.

I'm skeptical to go that far just because of his measurables, but I can't really say that you're wrong either. Based on the tape alone I don't think Mingo plays as big or as fast as he is listed. He has to show something early in camp this year IMO....Going into year 3 you cant still live off the potential label.

You would have to have a screw loose to believe any of that.

To be fair with Mingo he was traded during mid-season and had Rush at QB. It's possible that with going through TC and having a healthy Dak we could see him at his full potential.
Not saying he going to just turn it around from last year, but I do think it would be a good idea to give him that opportunity before throwing away the keys

You'll probably see a committee approach to the 3rd WR. Tolbert/Turpin may split reps, and I think its likely the Cowboys play a lot of 2TE sets as well eat into that WR3 snaps. Then you also have to factor in a guy like Blue who may get some snaps as well.

Tolbert and Pickens outside, with Lamb inside.

Turpin, Mingo get snaps in certain packages.

Flournoy / Brooks will get the mop up snaps and special teams duty

You're missing the point they're trying to get mingle back to that spot when he was in college he showed like that when his first year his rookie year he had moments like that like his best year what's his rookie year they're trying to fou find out what broke was it mental did he need better coaching a better quarterback you're literally pointing out players that have not played better than mango in college or his rookie year they only had him 1/2 a year they didn't put a 4th round pick on a guy they're just going to get rid of him he will be on this roster in 2025 guaranteed unless he does something that's against team policy outside the building and arrest yo he throws a jersey at the coach you know Antonio Bryant style....

He is a lock for 2025 beyond that I don't know but they're gonna give him a chance to become maybe a Noah Brown they want to see something and they're not giving up on him this year they're not it's not happening you can yell from the treetops at how you think other players have more potential but the Cowboys coaches believe he has the most potential out of the guys you guys are talking about he just lost it somewhere along the way and they're trying to get him to regain it..

We don't know anything beyond that but I do know this he will not get cut before the season....book it Keep receipts you're definitely not trading for a guy and only giving him 1/2 a season playing with the backup quarterback in a bad situation they will give him a full year minimum. There's nothing wrong with that either we're talking about the players who are low hanging fruit they're all developmental players and they're not a big deal who's there at the bottom being cultivated not at this point it doesn't matter...IMHO:facepalm::popcorn:.
