Notice Dak's increased velocity and quicker release

Dak is like the bizarro world jameis Winston.

Less natural ability and much much more work ethic/leadership qualities.
I kind of agree, but Dak has a ton of natural ability too. And an ability to absorb instruction and apply it to real situations quickly is also an ability that needs to be recognized.
I mean, he wasn't even receiving the ball from under center in college and had to learn all of the nuances from that last year...

We should all be thanking the football God that we didn't draft Conner Cook!

I don't know why other teams and the Cowboys were so high on this guy. He was a bum in college and he was going to be a bum in the NFL. All you had to do was watch his last 2 games vs Iowa and Alabama. #Bum

When word started to leak that Cowboys liked both Conner and Dak, I was all for Dak over Conner, even though I wasn't completely sold on Dak.

His arm strength has never been a problem - my chief complaint for him coming out of college was his footwork.

He's fixed it in spades and is throwing with his core and leg strength now and not throwing flat-footed. Dez Bryant walks in for 6 last night if the DB doesn't tackle him before the ball arrives on that deep ball, and at a minimum Dez lays out for the catch.
I really thought it should have been pass interference on the DB. It looked like he actually tackled Dez before the ball even arrived.

Oh for sure. Dak is immensely talented, but there’s a reason he’s been a backup at every stop and a mid round pick. His ascending in each of those situations is a testament to his work ethic and drive (to go along with his ability ) Where someone like jameis can show up and be the guy

Dak's throws had real zip and looked great. He made a couple of passes on the move that had a ton of zip on them. It definitely seemed like he made some great throws but I've never questioned Dak's athletic ability...although his throws looked better. I totally believe he worked his tail off this offseason.

I've questioned his willingness to consistently go down the field and his pocket awareness. I saw some instances of this still being an issue when he took some sacks and some dump off passes...or when he held the ball too long on the running back screen.

Real games will be a better tell than preseason games though.

As @casmith07 pointed out his footwork has come a long way since his time at MSU.

What strikes me now is how he has evolved throwing when the footwork is not ideal. There were a couple of games last year where he was made uncomfortable and his footwork broke down. His accuracy became erratic.

Now when he throws off one foot or with his feet side by side, he is accurate. It's been an interesting progression.

Velocity, yes. And that is a reflection of better mechanics and setting his feet

Quick release is over rated. Quick release depends on the ability to know your offense and read defenses. His release will get even quicker as tone goes on.

There was never anything wrong with daks release, it looked slow because the ball would come out slow at times. That's because sometimes Dak does arm throws. He's strong enough to get the ball out with an arm so I think when hes in a rush he just flings it out with bad mechanics and everything.

Basically there's never been anything wrong with his release or strength outside of a bad habit to arm throw when he's rushed.

dear members---my eyes were not playing tricks on me...this whole off season i have been worried about what i saw as a lack of velocity on Daks throws and what appeared as a slower release...but after last night i can see the ball had noticeable more velocity and his release noticeably quicker...wow i am both a little surprised He could have fixed those issues in a few short months but he did...and this makes me very happy...there will be no sophmore slump

To me that shows he's more confident now, trusting his reads, going into his second season as the unquestioned starter.

Dak worked with Tom Shaw to improve his core so he could put more zip on the ball. It looks like it worked.
