What does Dallas do at DE?

Releasing Ware creates a bigger hole then the 3tech spot. Which probably gets filled by Melton. This draft isnt really big on DE after Clowney. A whole bunch of projects after him. The next that would considered passrushers are actually LBers.

I like Barr but I agree it's a drop off. Jernigan can fit in nicely but it all depends who falls.

Roll with Crawford and Selvie and add pieces to rotate both in the draft and FA.

Youth movement.

It's going to have to happen. The defense is a full rebuilding project along the front four now.

This team will not compete for a Super Bowl for at least two years.

Despite Melton's knee injury last year, he still will command a hefty free agent contract, IMHO. I doubt we'll be a candidate for his services this year. My hope for a better pash rush lies with a possible concentrated effort to improve our pass rush via the draft.

I think guys like Ealy, Donald and perhaps a few others have better potential than we might think.

I don't think it is that big of a hole. Insert a stop gap until you draft a new DE. Ware's production last year was forgettable and replaceable.

Henry Melton
Corey Wooten
Vance Walker

I could see these 3 joining the Cowboys.

Selvie earned a shot at starting this year, and Crawford was a 3rd Round pick. This is what NFL teams do, turn the roster and at some point you need to have faith in the guys you drafted. We still need to bring in probably 2 other Ends for solid depth.

Marinelli already said he views Crawford as a DT why dont fans ever listen to what coaches say?

I would have to believe they didn't cut DeMarcus without having a alternate plan in place. There are outside pass rushers in the draft who will play and play well in this league. Obviously, the trick is in finding them, but certainly something that can be done.

And, of course, free agency might be where this is resolved. I just pray we don't go diving into a bidder's market for a DE. Free agents rarely outplay their contract.

But make no mistake, the answer in replacing D-Ware's production does not reside on the roster. We gotta go get this/these guy(s).

“The good thing about Crawford is that he's versatile,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “I think he could be an under tackle. I think he could be a left end. That was unfortunately a tough one that we lost. We thought he was going to be player No. 5 for us that could be versatile and play a lot of snaps.”

“You've got to see the guy move,” defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said. “I haven't had the chance to do much with him other than OTAs, so a guy like that we've got to kind of get him started because he's got the ability to move inside and outside.”

You've been arguing this all off-season when the fact is they haven't said that and are still deciding on where to play him. Those quotes are from not even 2 weeks ago.

Think DWare's departure may swing where they decide to put him? You know, the position he played in college?

I said in another thread that we may be looking at Melton, Spencer and Wootten. They are looking at players coming off injury that can be had at a reduced price. I think they go DE in the 2nd round.

If they bring back Spencer I bet he plays the weak side, with Crawford/Selvie on the strong side and a draft pick or two filling in behind.

You know they drafted him to be a 3-4 DE?

Selvie is slow, You get another DE on the strong side who is equally as slow around the edge. Thats a disaster waiting to happen. Crawford has good quickness going straight, what he would do inside. But Dallas would have no outside pressure with Selvie and Crawford as your DEs

You cant just plug in guys at DE in this defense. Doesnt work that way. they need speed off the edge.
