why are u people so inclined for another OLB? u people do know how much money is already put into this LB core right?

james and akin will be in the middle, and carp and ellis will be manning the strongside. if they get another OLb i think its the draft. never fails every yr people cry and complain about the offense. but come offseason all they want to talk about is the defense.

Without a doubt, one of the dumbest statements ever posted here.

We had one of the top offenses in the NFL.

Our defense fell apart the last 4 games, and has had trouble getting to the QB for years.

Why the hell would people talk about anything BUT the defense?

I think you meant Carp and Ware, but James needs to either really upgrade his performance or be relegated to the bench, contract extension or not.

I can think of a reason and that is the OL, it became less of an issue with Romo behind center but it does not change the fact that it is still an area that needs upgrading. When they went up against good defenses the OL showed itself as a weak link

they arnt very consistent though...the numbers were improved, but we still had too many up and down weeks

one of the causes of this is finally gone

because its still not where it should be...with the weapons we had at the skill positions, we shouldnt have games like we had vs Philly and Seattle at the end of the yr...Detroit too

and in games vs bad run defenses like Indy, New Orleans and Philly, we couldnt hardly run a lick...

Why shouldn't the Cowboys go after Thomas even after he's tagged?

I believe he's worth it.

2 1st rd picks for a guy who has seen double digit sacks 1 time in his 7 year career?

yeah he'd be worth it if he were Lawrence Taylor or Andre Tippett in their primes, but he isnt it and isnt even remotely close either

he isnt worth 1 first rd pick, let alone 2

To finish smarta's thought..."You can't" be serious!

You think a 30yr. old (on 8/18/07) 1st time pro bowler who for the first time in his career got double digits in sacks is worth TWO 1st round picks plus a hefty contract? Say it ain't so Silver Bullet. Say it ain't so.

I wanted to say it simpler than you did.

Way too much typing

Its not worth it.

Cant was a harsh word to use

Much better. I would have liked Thomas added to the team but at a much lower cost.

I was on the bandwagon till talks of tagging him came out.

To be optimistic... I beleive if our scheme is better this year it will make our other OLBs look like a Thomas anyway.

I dont think we are gonna go OLB unless we move Carp inside over Bradie James.

Hmm.

Bradie James: 5 YRs $20M with a $8M signing bonus. (20+8)=28/5 = $5.6M/yr
Akin Ayodele: 5 YRs $17M with a $5M signing bonus. (17+5)=23/5 = $4.6M/yr

My guess is Akin is more likely to get cut unless he plays much better than James. One way or another I think Carp is going to take someones job just because he can pass rush better than either of them!

I personally would take Carp and Akin inside over James with 1 of the others.

Akin seemed to be around the ball a lot more than James.

James was toooooooo slow to do make any plays.

We aren't cutting either guy. After 1 year of their contract the cap hit would be insane. Also, I think you are double counting the SBs. James is 5 years 20 mill including the 8 mill SB. Not 8 mill in addition to that - -same with Ayodele.

So that's 4 mill and about 3.5 respectively per year.

I agree and do not expect to see either guy released.

What do you think of acquiring cheaper guys likely to be available like Tully Banta-Cain, who has shownpass rushing ability in a reserve role, getting 5.5 sacks plus 2 in the playoffs.

or a guy like Dewayne White from Tampa, a pass rushing DE that could convert to a 3-4 OLB?

Think Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila...

If only because of the fun we'll have, watching posters try to get that name right... LOL...
