I don't care about 1 gap or 2 gap you need size in the middle and with Jay Ratliff at the nose opposing teams avg. 23 points/game and 4.2 avg. per run. There have been more teams that won the Super Bowl with D than O. I want to make teams one dimensional. Do u think for one second there is a team that fears our run defense especially after the Tampa Bay game. Yes we can stop teams that don't have good running games but look who are the top teams in the NFC most not all run the ball. You must first stop the run then game on.

Do you have the same type of numbers for Rogers defenses that you shared above for defenses that Ratliff was the NT for? I would bet they are worse. I would also like to know how many plays he is in for per game. He seems wore out on the sidelines more than he is in the game. It was mentioned earlier, but what about all the rushing yards the vaunted Rogers led defense gave up last week?

Not that it really matters to me. We had the number 12 rush defense last year, and held the Giants to only 72 rushing yards last December.

I don't care how quick Jay Ratliff is and I love him as a football player. Until we get a true nose tackle we will not stop the run on a consistient basis. Jay Ratliff went to the pro bowl because he had 6.5 sacks from the nose tackle position not because he stopped the run. Shaun Rogers,if healthy would be the equivalent to obtaining Haley. Imagine how much that would free up our inside LB's to just run and make plays. The base of a 3-4 is the nose and 2 OLB's but we have neither the GM nor the coach to see that fact. I hope this doesn't hurt us come december but I'm afraid it will. I just hope Jerry opens his eyes.

Jerry had his chance to draft Rogers but took Tony Dixon instead. :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

You want Jerry Jones to go get Shaun Rogers. Thus, Jerry Jones should respect your player evaluation skills when it comes to nose tackles, correct?

That must be why he was such a huge help in keeping the Vikings under 230 yards. I mean he only happened to help allow 225 yards. He's an absolutely great NT at helping stop the run.

Get your 3-4's straight kiddo. We play a 1 gap 3-4 where a quick penetrating d lineman like Rat can excel. If we played a hold the point of attack 2 gap style like we did when BP was here then you may have a point. Were hoping to be an aggressive attacking defense that makes teams react to us, VS us reacting to them. BIG difference between the Phillips 3-4 and the old chuck fairbanks stuff ran by Parcells.

Okay, let me comment by saying the same defense was ran in San Deigo and their Nose Tackle is Jammal Williams who is a true Nose Tackle. Patroits for example runs a 3-4 with Wilfork as the nose tackle. So every 3-4 scheme needs a space eater to free up other players and open the defense up.

Most Jerry Kids know the Cowboys could have drafted the Texas product but Jerrys scouts couldnt convince him, so he drafted Quincy Carter AND Tony Dixon!

do you really think the GM wants to relive that memory by bringing Rogers in some 8 years later... lets stick with what we have.

Isn't Rogers the player who takes himself out of games because he is winded or tired?

I think on a critical play against Dallas he took himself out and we scored - I think.

So even if the team were to listen to you, why would this guy be an upgrade over a motivated Ratliff?

I fail to see the wisdom in this.

No, Jerry should not respect my skills nor should I respect his but go look at the last 12 drafts and you tell me what have those produced. We have below .500 record for the decade and have not won a playoff game in 13 years. In any businee you measure sucess by profits in the NFL playoffs and Super Bowls, we have neither since 1995 and the one constant has been Jerry Jones the G.M. Don't get me wrong I like Jerry the owner, the best in the business no doubt but the G.M. needs to take a step back and let football people do their job

I don't think we need Rogers but at some point I'd like to see us put some monster in the middle, move Rat to 1 side where he would simply dominante.

This despite the fact that Ratliff has repeatedly stated he does not wish to play DE?

It's not about what Ratliff wants it's about where some fans think he should be playing.

No reason to worry...We've only given up 580 yards rushing the last 3 regular season games.

Whatever the reason, this is the important fact. Something needs to change, all is not well in the run stopping department despite statements to the contrary.

In retrospect for your very own thread concerning nosetackle?

A: Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jay Ratliff

The Colts posted a sub .500 record this decade. So have the Giants and Steelers. Could you provide some insight as to how those three teams' drafts prevented 8-8 or better records during certain seasons?

If I informed you that Kermit the Frog was green, would you find that fact any less obvious than the one about Dallas' won/loss record for the past thirteen seasons?

"...haven't won a playoff game in thirteen years". Who knew? Hey, the sky is blue and the sun rises in the east and sets in the west! Shazam!

The Cowboys are going after a certain type of player and Rogers just doesn't fit the mold.

We're going after more of the hardworker type of guy and he is the exact opposite.

A few games need to be completed before a true evaluation can be made concerning the running game. The play calls and assignments appeared to be more of the issue than personnel.
